Today's update 14 Oct25

Hi everyone,

This is a small but important update, Multiplayer should be working again now!

Bug Fix
Fixed Multiplayer crash issue
steffire3  [author] 28 Sep @ 2:26pm
@ Everyone : I have begun a Discussion (Link is at the bottom of this comment) to make it easier to post long comments and responses for plans, feedback, and ideas to resolve the Multiplayer issue.

We are a patient and resolute mod team; we have faced big issues in the past and the mod continues to walk forward faithfully - through it all.

Y'all extended feedback is most welcome. The TL2-Ace Team thanks you incredibly for your support during this time of need.

@ Everyone : The easiest solution is to open another Workshop port of the Ace mod specifically gutted out on some months worth of updates to offer an "unstable" version for Multiplayer testing.

We keep this (here, the original) version untouched "as Single Player" temporarily; to reduce any complications on the matter.

Prevents further issues trying to purposely break the features (searching for the issue) currently present; for those enjoying the current state of the mod.

Protecting forward progress on several months worth of work while offering another version that "plays it safer" for Multiplayer.

Challenge Dungeons would be largely untouched naturally; ensuring that both versions are still as compelling as each other minus some newer class updates for Multiplayer.

Y'all feedback is most welcome; glad to open a Discussion on this if required.

And I thank y'all very much for all your offers and info to help on the matter. Most Welcome.

@Corley I did dig into the comments back until November 2023, the first multiplayer crash reports start from March 2025, before that date (until nov. 2023) nobody did mention it.

I would suggest keep the updates going like it goes and provide a link to ealier versions around februari 2025 or so.

To find back the cause it would help to check what part of the game was worked on around Jan/March 2025 that could have broken it. Since it does crash immidiatly it might have something to things getting out of the borders like maybe the warbot that doesn't go well in multiplayer.

Searching into the code is frequently hell of a workaround, what can help is getting big chunks out of the mod like keeping a whole added new class out and see if the crash still persist.

If the game is on sale I might give you guys an extra gift account. That can help multiplayer testing!
Corley  [author] 28 Sep @ 12:04am
@TheWayMan - agreed with the issue with multiplayer, it is currently not working and we have added a comment to the top of the mod description. We are still trying to work out what broke this. The mod pushes the limits of torchlight.

@Torchlight2 Plus - that is also our thinking, we have backup versions and we could roll back to a different older version. The problem is we are not 100% sure when the multupleayter issue occured. We would have to do alot of experimenting and my overall concern is that we "break" the mod or make things worse.

@𝔭 𝔞 𝔭 𝔦 - it is 98% complete, 1 more skill remains to be added, we were hoping to finish this off and final balancing in one of the next updates.

Overall me and Steffire are discussing next steps and if we try to recover multiplayer but at the risk of the overall mod. We may start a discussion on this and get everyone else thoughts before we do anything major
ٴ 27 Sep @ 5:15pm
is the vampire class finished?
Torchlight2 Plus 27 Sep @ 2:24pm
@TheWayMan @Steffire3: A solution could be earlier versions of the mod that didn't gave problems in multiplayer? Steam only provides the latest versions but there might be backups of early versions of the mod placed elsewhere?

I am also interested to know if my 26 pet slots mod work fine in multiplayer setups. Couldn't test that myself... (I think it does since it affects only the players local files and the torchlight inspect each others inventory doesn't work on each other pets?)
TheWayMan 27 Sep @ 7:46am
Update for everyone: This game is not working with multiplayer. I tried many different mods to make sure it wasn't me, all mods work fine when playing multiplayer. I tried Ace alone, and with mods. I remove ace, it works fine, ace by itself crashes the game as well. I made sure to follow all multiplayer tips and tricks. All my other mods work fine, I can play with my wife fine. It is ONLY ace that causes the crashing. I hope they fix it as it is an amazing modpack/tweek to the original TL2.
TheWayMan 26 Sep @ 4:47pm
@steffire3, I hope y'all look into it. This is easily the best mod that doesn't just break the game. I played solo up to level 50 and man it is so much better than standard TL2. If I can do anything to help let me know. My wife and I have been wanting to play after I told her about it.
Torchlight2 Plus 25 Sep @ 9:55am
@cohlE >> source: this mod description.
"Critical hits removed from all enemies - no more random one shot deaths"
They also nerved the lethal blade floor traps in act 2.

I would have opt-in for mob still can crit but for like 10-20% bonus damage.
So yes they implemented a no random one shot death. On hardcore I still work with extra local saves. I had once a insane damage instant kill shot from the werewolf boss. Code can be silly at times ;)
cohlE 25 Sep @ 8:06am
I love this mod. Just one question... can the mobs still one shot you? I hated this in vannila. You could be strong as hell and still get one shot from a basic troll etc.
steffire3  [author] 21 Sep @ 11:46am
@ TheWayMan : Indeed, our concern has been whether Ace itself has had an update some time ago that broke Multiplayer and it appears it has. I'm going to list it as Single Player for the time being until further notice. Apologies.
TheWayMan 21 Sep @ 6:22am
I'm only using ACE. I figured it would be best to just try one mod at a time. And what do you know... It crashes instantly when joining. I found out a long time ago to just use one mod pack make sure it works then add more. But just ACE alone crashes the game. I tried different classes deleting my games folders all that stuff. Kinda sad been wanting to play TL2 but just not vanilla.
HiFive 21 Sep @ 2:08am
Check the comments on the bottom of page two and top of page 3 of this comment section. Apparently, some mods don't work well with co-op, so if you are using other mods with this one, one of those mods might be the issue.
TheWayMan 20 Sep @ 7:48pm
Multiplayer broken for anyone else ?
HiFive 9 Sep @ 10:44am
Thanks, Corley. It seems I'm having a number of issues with my current load of class mods. I'll have to do a lot of exploring and/or experimenting to find out which mod is causing the problem.
Corley  [author] 8 Sep @ 2:11pm
hi HiFive, just confirming we haven't touched or modified this or the other phase beast areas in anyway
HiFive 8 Sep @ 12:14pm
Re: Phase Portal 10 in Langhaven. Did you recently nerf the instance a bit? My visit there today gave me one green gel and only 2 of the regular purple ones. If you haven't made any changes to the instance then it's probably one of my other mods.
steffire3  [author] 11 Aug @ 4:22pm
@ HiFive : Huge thanks! We enjoyed working on those.
HiFive 11 Aug @ 10:13am
Thanks for the update! The new character icons look good. :cozyspaceengineersc:

steffire3  [author] 29 Jul @ 3:45pm
@ seralexperments : Back-up (copy, paste) the Mod-save folder before making changes.
I have yet to test Grand Larceny mod with Essentials however the mod that goes on top will take priority (all features will be available) while the mod below will have overlapping features overridden (not available in-game). Has to be tested to know for certain.
seralexperments 29 Jul @ 11:09am
i use Grand Larceny this and Essentials in that order and was wondering if i should flip this with Larceny i got Grand Larceny due to chests with uniques how will they mess which other?
steffire3  [author] 24 Jul @ 11:32am
@ klc_kemal : I actually do play with Ace above and Essentials below in the load order.
Essentials makes it's own changes to the game as accessibility feels more complete with both.

If in need of a work-around to get the Stash functional - there's a trick where adding certain Inventory mods above Ace can solve that issue:
https://steamproxy.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/654068491/4353365446950849460/
klc_kemal 24 Jul @ 2:45am
Could I combine this mod with essentials or should I play it alone?
HiFive 29 Jun @ 11:19am
I'm just proposing that people try checking these things out. It's weird, but often things that seem totally unrelated to the issue at hand are found to be the culprit, such as TL2's local_settings file getting corrupted and causing all sorts of odd problems with the game.
HiFive 29 Jun @ 11:15am
Arekkusu and steffire3,
Shot in the dark musings about the multiplayer issues:
1) Sometimes other devices hooked up to a rig can interfere with a game. Perhaps this can also affect multiplayer?
2) Sometimes 3rd party software that is supposed to improve gameplay performance (such as MSI Afterburner) can do the opposite on games - especially older games. Perhaps this kind of software can also affect multiplayer.
steffire3  [author] 26 Jun @ 2:26pm
@ Arekkusu : My thanks for your persistence in looking for a fix. One of our trailers does showcase a second player in multiplayer at this specific moment in the linked video (the first Dark Alchemist Boss Laser scene):
https://youtu.be/sXwDpNdH3_g?si=KA-Tn3TC7LpUF1dY&t=98
We know that Internet Service Provider methods can cause connection issues however as to why a mod affects players separately to join multiplayer is somewhat beyond what the TL2 community has been able to discover through the years of report gathering.
My apologies for the inconvenience.
Arekkusu 25 Jun @ 1:55pm
Thank you @ Steffire3 for the quick reply. I will try deleting my mod save folders, files and then Verify Game files via Steam. I did use different mods in the past which might have affected certain files. I really want fo find a solution since I know I am not the only one with this issue.

For you information, the issue we have is by using ACE only, we have no other mods active at the moment.

I know Torchlight 2 multiplayer is a bit janky with mods but I was trying to find a video or even an image of people playing together. Nothing for the moment. I almost thought this mod was for single player only.
steffire3  [author] 25 Jun @ 1:31pm
@ Arekkusu, @ Dera : Unfortunately it's hit-or-miss whether some mods function for some players in multiplayer - it's one of TL2's annoyances that we've been noting for years.
Here's one example:
https://steamproxy.com/groups/TLM2H/discussions/5/3184614124776722217/
Dera 25 Jun @ 6:43am
Hello! I also want to comment on the co-op with this mod enabled. Looks like a really well made mod, but unfortunately when trying to play online with a friend, Lan or Internet, it doesn’t work. We tried a few things: Firewall settings, 3rd party apps, in-game settings, etc.

Game works in co-op just fine when we disable the mod though, which is a shame as we really want to play it!
Arekkusu 25 Jun @ 6:12am
Hello, 1st of all great mod from what I've seen so far. I was wondering if anyone has issue playing in coop either via Internet or LAN? Without this mod, everything works fine, but as soon as we have it, it crashes the host and the 2nd player will then connect.

I've tried a lot of things from the discussion link provided by Steffire3 below without success. Most of the discussions seem to talk about regular connection which is working fine on our side. Only this mod is not working.
steffire3  [author] 20 Jun @ 5:09pm
@ Drain gang member : Could try the Lan work-around from this discussion link:

Sex inspector 18 Jun @ 5:19pm
Tried to play coop with this mod, but it always crashes the moment my friend joins. Any fixes?
HiFive 23 Apr @ 8:13pm
steffire3,
Thanks for all of the replies to my questions. It all sounds good. :cozyspaceengineersc:
steffire3  [author] 22 Apr @ 2:51pm
@ HiFive : Highly appreciate all the detailed feedback.
And glad to hear of the new "Ice+Minion build War_Bot" started with the latest updates.
01: War_Bot color schemes are a challenge we're seeking to solve on the development side.
02: Will review Health Potions to check options regarding drops around Act-01.
03: Soldiers and Vampires will receive an update to their thumbnails in the next patch.
04: Steam Thrower will be updated on it's description and visually to match the motive; as we have intended it to be some kind of Sulfuric Launcher that strikes with Physical themes.
HiFive 22 Apr @ 1:13pm
I started a new Normal difficulty War Bot, because my previous one of the same difficulty was made just 4 days prior to your May 5 update from last year (2024) and, at that time, you stated that War Bots made prior to the update wouldn't be upgraded by the new update. He's specializing in Ice skills and is having an easy time, which is good for me right now.I'm enjoying his robot friends, as well.

Any chance we can make War Bots with some different color schemes in the future? Such things just add a little more fun to the game.
HiFive 22 Apr @ 1:07pm
Corley,
Yes, I know the vendor in the start area sells the Basic potions cheaply, and sometimes I purchase them for my Elite characters. However, I'm now also getting what look exactly like regular health potions, but they don't stack with the vanilla-game health potions. However, I see that they only spawn in the beginner map and the Temple Steppes map, so I guess that tracks with it being TL2-ACE that is giving me those potions?

At least the vanilla health potions still drop, so I end up with two stacks of two different regular health potions that won't stack on each other and have to be placed in 2 different slots on my skill tray.
Corley  [author] 22 Apr @ 12:56pm
hey HiFive, we are working on the Soldier and Vampire images next :). the versions i have seen of the Soldier look excellent and we cannot wait to share them.

With the health potions i think these are very basic potions from the first few zones(added in this mod). Added as we have a basic vendor in the start area selling these very cheaply.
HiFive 21 Apr @ 10:34pm
By the time I get to the first town, I find some health potions in my inventory. They have the same value and name as the health potions on my toolbar, but they don't stack with those health potions and when I move the toolbar health potions somewhere (or use them up), these other health potions don't take the place of the regular health potions. I would have to manually assign them to my toolbar. I still get the Basic Health potions, as well.

It's getting rather confusing at that first area. Why don't we just get the normal health potions as drops? Or are both of these additional types of health potions coming from one of the other mods I'm using with TL2-ACE?
HiFive 21 Apr @ 10:10pm
Steam Thrower is described as burning heat, but the actual details say it is physical damage. I'm confused.
HiFive 21 Apr @ 9:20pm
Is there any chance you might update the Soldier's thumbnail? Sorry to say, I haven't really liked it (the gas mask bothers me), and it now looks very plain compared to the fantastic thumbnails you have given to the other classes.
HiFive 20 Apr @ 10:17am
Thanks for posting, Corley! I look forward to trying the Golden Crypt with the change you've made. The golden wisps were fun and pretty, but it was hard on my hands trying to pop so many of them.
Corley  [author] 20 Apr @ 1:50am
