Drone War: Capture And Destroy Final

Description
This is the fully playable version of my Level Design contest submission found here: http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=349543978

Best played with 8-16 people. Join up with BLU/RED faction to control drones. This level is pretty complex, I hope it plays well enough.

Mission story:
You and your team have been trapped inside a base on an unknown moon. The base teases freedom, but locks the doors as soon as anyone attempts to leave.

Your captors have given a directive: destroy the enemy base, leaving any survivors to be ripped apart by the fearsome defenses on the moon's surface.

Gameplay:
The teams must venture out of their respective bases through the eyes, weapons and claws of the provided drones. Venturing outside of the canyons and craters on the moon will cause the aggressive turrets nearby to rip the drone to shreds.

The players start the level with a few simple (gripper) drones, and have enough resources to build several others. In order to gain more resources they must destroy and harvest wrecked drones, or use the two resource bases and central drill.

Reaching the scarce resources requires moving along the existing canyons to capture local turrets (A and B). Once captured, the turret structures will expand your antenna range, allowing drone access to other turrets and resources.

The resource bases (B) have a rotary door that hinders supply rushes. Fly a drone onto the yellow pad to open the door, then enter the door to gain access to supply crates. Grab as many crates as your drone can handle and drag them back to base.

The center of the level has a large Mining Drill crane that consumes ore and builds bullets/missiles for both teams. The only way to capture these munitions is to build a Cargo Truck and park under one of the four connectors at the base of the drill.

Passing above the canyon walls is possible, but ill advised. Your captors have placed aggressive turrets on the moon's surface that will chew up anything that tries to escape.

Features:

-Symmetrical canyon paths with bases and permanent defense turrets on each side. Canyon walls are color coded: if you see mostly red walls you're heading towards the red base.

-Team Switchable turrets in key sections of the map. Place a drone on the Red/Blue panel for 5 seconds in order to switch the turret/antenna to your side. Switching a turret to your side will extend your team's antenna network and drone range. Capture turret A in order to reach turret B. Turret B will extend your team's range large enough to reach your opponent's Turret B, then their Turret A, then their home base.

-Aggressive AI turrets along the surface of the world will fire on any drones that leave the canyons.

-Resource bases filled with components necessary to build larger and more advanced drones.

-Neutral Drill Crane in the central arena that mines and refines minerals required for ammo, missiles and warheads.

-11 types of drone, deployable device, and utility attachments available in each garage.

-All large turrets in the world are self repairing. Without sustained fire they will quickly return to full strength. (repair speed may currently be too fast).

The rest of the notes will be posted on the KeenSWH forums. There's a character limit in the workshop and there's too much info for the space availabe.

Apparently one of the mods I used is no longer on the workshop. I'm not sure which it was (red numbers in the mod list). You can download the world, then go to options and remove the bad mod. Now that I've loaded this up it appears that keens updates in the last few years have really screwed over the map. The center crane rips itself apart and flies off into space. The home base defense turrets destroy their own bases.

If you want to check out this map, I'd suggest turning off block damage and resetting all ownership in the map options before opening it.

Very cool concept. I have yet to try it out but it looks like you put a ton of effort into this and I can't wait to play it.

I could help you make a gameplay video.

@amfest Glad you're checking out the level.

Sorry I can't really make a gameplay vid, none of my friends play SE.

The rotary door should open if you sit overtop the yellow pad, pretty close to the floor.

Projectors were released about a week before I had to submit the level, so I didnt have time to make a projection "printer" for all the drones. I've started the process of getting the drone blueprints ready, but I've been working on other projects and havent done all the tuning necessary to get the drones easier to make.

The gripper drones are a bit underpowered, but I wanted to keep them small/cheap so they are disposable. When moving the larger frames around, just move a bit slower. Wait for all motion to stop on the frame, then detach and move the gripper to a better spot to move the frame.

Well I've been trying this map with a couple of friends. I love this idea alot though I'm not really good with drones. Still there are some issues having to get further into this. Couldn't figure out how to open the rotating doors by landing on pad did it require more than 1 gripper on pad? I saw ya said to maybe get a workship as soon as possible but upon grabbing the WS frame the gripper sorta becomes too hard to control to get to welder oven. I guess it could be just that I don't understand how to balance the mass but I don't know. also had problems getting a second gripper out of the bin cause of the small opening. Again could be me cause I'm a bad pilot XD . . exploded my gripper by hitting the glass. wish ya had a nice play through with some teams going on it displaying a full game.

Oh, I didn't think about factions! Thank you.

@melon
I think you just spawn in, Join the Red/Blu faction, then fly to the base. If you die you should be able to respawn in the base. If you arent dead and the doors are shut, there's a button panel in front to open the doors. Just be faster than the door closes when you fly inside.

Ownerships are set up to enforce the drone combat. Once you are on the red team, the NPC player "Red" owns the base, and everything he owns is shared with the faction. The welders will also set ownership to "Red", and the drones they build should be playable.

If any of this doesnt work as I've described, please let me know.
