Description
  • Overview
    Starting as a personal mod of mine for single player and multiplayer with friends, I thought I would upload it for anyone else to enjoy. It makes changes to the AI to play far more "Fair" across the board, while making sure that difficulty still matters. This doesn't make the AI harder, but the aim is to make the AI play fairer and to role play their part better alongside the player.

  • Features
    • AI bonuses across all difficulty settings have been changed or greatly reworked depending on the difficulty, and the game now plays closer to the players experience while making sure the AI can still use all it's features. However, the difficulty will still help dictate certain behaviours allowed to the AI and how they try to keep pace during the game and some modifiers they get.

      The hardest of difficulties apply some of the above while giving their starting army a value boost and a minor income-multi based on their difficulty to make sure they don’t run into deficits at the game start, and to stay competitive without outright cheating against the player. Unlike in the vanilla game where the AI got massive turn-by-turn production/research/Unit XP and influence boosts each turn, alongside other bonuses they got, which meant the AI would spam stacks and worse. Higher difficulties should give a better experience for normal players, while the AI is affected by their economy.

    • Improves AI personalities to be more in line with their descriptions.

    • Helps the AI stop spamming colonies; now, on higher difficulties, the AI will try for a more natural lead of colonies if able to do so and have a higher priority for where to colonise. Colonisers are a bit more and scale better for Players and AI.

    • The AI focuses more on their own racial troops, while also being less inclined to spam dwelling units depending on their personality. The AI will also try to lead by the number of military units it has based on it's difficulty and the number of units the strongest Human player has in comparison.

    • The AI is now more likely to raze colonies during wartime or to migrate their primary race to new colonies when captured, unless, for example, if the AI is a Xenophile, a more Peaceful AI personality type. There are also now fewer penalties for doing so, meaning more factions stick to their primary species with alignment issues; although they can still have alliances/treaties with other races.

      Best results having it last in your load order.

    • Compatibility
      Tested and is working with Faction add-on mods, the
      DLC in Campaigns Mod and the Adventure Mod, among others, without known issues. I highly recommend them all, espcially the Adventure Mod and the faction-add on mods.

    • Issues/Suggestions
      The mod gets updated regularly; unsubbing/resubbing can also fix problems with Steam Workshop or by verifying the game files. Bugs can be posted in the comments, or preferably, you are welcome to DM me for any bugs or suggestions, and I'll do my best to see what I can do.

    • What's Next?
      For now, the mod is mostly feature-complete and polished without outstanding issues. However, I will keep balancing in mind and watch for any bugs relating to the mod.

aye, me too. I am trying to get into planetfall again, but in vanilla the AI is no real threat I remember. playing with the adventure mod, and truth to be told, I am somewhat struggling with the game - somewhat due to LOS and how easily units seem to die, but mostly due to the UI/visuals/music (no overworld music, lack of speed options on the overworld or during a battle to make all unit movement uniform, repeated attacks causing issues with overlapping text which is a bit too big as well imo) but hopefully will be able to learn my way around it/have the devs take the knowledge from AOW4 and apply it to a future planetfall game, because mechanics like unit mods or a low amount of districts that matter a LOT for the sake of economy/military are really darn fascinating to me. and hopefully it makes the AI easier to work with compared to the insanity of mid/late game AOW 4 builds xD

@megabot - Glad your liking it, haha yeah I still dabble in some changes time to time, however not sure if there is anything left to do.

I agree, really hope we see another game like this, and maybe after AOW 4 will see its planetfall version in the future.

huh. I saw the description stating "the mod gets updated regularily" and I was like "nah, probably forgotten to take that out" then I look at the update date and you ain't lying, still active. glad to see that, considering it appears most other moders have left already. hopefully we get a game akin to this at some point in the future, I enjoy AOW 4, but the way racial transformations and unit enchantments work makes that game play way better if you just stack infinite enchantments and transformations to then spam tier 1/tier 2 units (especially with mighty meek as an option)

@Irulan - Hey, I wanted to make one for AOW3 but I haven’t played it much again since 4, so no AOW3 version sorry.

There may already be similar searching AI, and not too hard to make.

@Terrapin - It will still make some changes for a better experience in my opinion, as normal still gets some changes along with the other changes.

But give it a try if you like, if you’re playing normal and finding it fair then you may not need what’s in the description. All difficulties got some changes among the other listed changes (:

Do I need this mod if I'm just playing on normal? It seems most of the players that are using this mod are playing on extreme. Does the AI get enough of a boost on normal to make this mod necessary?
