If you can't tolerate jank, wait for patches before buying.
If you want a more hardcore experience, wait for some of the modding community to cook a bit longer and come up with some better balancing for the economy.

Marking as recommended because I feel like the devs, if not the modding community, will get this game in really good shape and fix most of my issues. But I have to emphasize, this is NOT a finished game.

Beneath the bugs and the crashes is an actually fun and pretty solid game.
The atmosphere feels like a mix of metro, new vegas, and far cry all in a "realistic" dark and grimy setting.
The gunplay is fun, the story is interesting enough to keep me invested, and I've been having fun exploring the world so far.

There is a lot to like about this game, but there's also a few things that just feel wrong outside of the obvious bugginess and crashing.

There are plenty of valid criticisms for the A-Life "2.0" implementation but the devs are aware its not working as they intended.

Just to point out some negatives with that system that I'm not certain will be patched and seem to be intended for better or worse.

The spawn bubble is wayyy too small and doesn't take enough into account which leads to some pretty jarring moments like exploring a peninsula, clearing the end, then turning around only to be attacked from the end of the peninsula you just cleared because A-Life "2.0" randomly spawned in some people 80 feet behind you.

The game will also do fun things like decide to spawn in a squad of people and a bloodsucker the SECOND you start a fight on a mission, and due to the small spawn bubble size it can quickly just become you VS 15 people and a bloodsucker or two.

The economy feels a bit busted, but I kinda like not being able to quickly become crazy rich.
I'd really like to see things like gun cleaning kits and basic repair kits to keep things in better condition in the field.

There's also no binos or NVG, particularly because that spawning system spawns people in such a small bubble around you binos are especially useless...

Even if you have a good scope and try and scope out a building from too far, see its empty, suddenly you get closer and a whole squad of people spot you from the rooftop you saw nobody on when you were further away...

This game needs a bit more time in the oven, but there is so much potential here in the near-ish future.

You have no idea how long I've been looking for this game.
Apparently the framerates suck when in borderless so make sure you set it to fullscreen

Its full of bugs, it crashes a lot, and it has its issues but I'll be damned if this isn't the best shooter I've played in a long time

Arrowhead has my full faith that they'll work their way out of the issues we're hitting in the first month of release and I hope this game continues to evolve over years!

Early Access Review
Shockingly decent especially at the lower price point.

There's definitely some wonkiness with the AI and pathing, I had to cheese the first boss battle, I don't think the balancing on that is right for just one player.

The core of the game is a hell of a lot of fun bugs aside.

I've spent more money on worse games from better developers so I guess that makes this pretty damn good.

Overall, not unplayable, but there are a number of quality of life changes that need to be made to make the game feel complete and play right.

But, because steam doesn't have a middle of the road option for recommendation, I guess I choose no.

I did a quick run through the tutorial to get a feel for the game and the changes between CS1 and CS2.
Ignoring the performance issues people are complaining about (which are super easy to fix with some setting tweaking)

This is kind of a mixed bag of issues and things that were done well but:
  • The utilities under the road are nice, but running lines to the road are weird as you don't snap to the utility lines causing you to overshoot, undershoot, or otherwise misplace things.
  • The fact that pipes have limited capacity and a visual representation for how much is in the pipes is awesome
  • The requirement for a road to some buildings is kind of absurd and limits creativity/planning in some cases.
  • The snapping for road creation is very annoying as you will snap to a road/path for a building such as a park or power plant, but the game will tell you you're overlapping. To work around this, you have to click really close to the building you want to connect and sometimes you're a bit short and have to do it again...
  • Road alignment and angle snapping doesn't feel right and the margin for snapping into something like a 90 degree angle feels too small.
  • The graphs are cumbersome, you get some similar colors and its hard to identify which is which as hovering over a line doesn't tell you what the line represents.
  • The number of new things to consider is not overwhelming and quite pleasant to have some new challenges

The game feels incomplete and unpolished just from a very short playthrough of the tutorial and trying out some of the new and old features. Things feel more clunky and hard to handle compared to CS1, while this is in part to give you a higher degree of freedom and ability, its done in such a way that makes doing simple things feel kind of tedious.

I know many are having fun with the game and I know I could probably sit down and work through my issues with it but I'd rather invest my time elsewhere while the issues get patched and the modders release QoL upgrades and maybe get a the game on sale.

Unfortunately I'll be refunding this and waiting for some fixes to come out, its sad that we live in a day and age where games get released in states that don't feel entirely ready.
They easily could've released the game with some graphical settings disabled by default and 90% of this bad feedback wouldn't be affecting them.
Still, the lack of attention to such a simple fix before release signals to me that there's much more unpolished bits surrounding this game, some of which I encountered in my 1hr of play time.

As has been the case with many games recently, delaying this game instead of releasing and panic fixing the issues in response to bad feedback would've been a better course of action.

Previous review below.

Here we are a year out, the devs have made some considerable changes to the game to help improve things.
Unfortunately, the entire community still seems to be upset about the bad state of the game at launch.

Cumulatively, and especially with the latest patch, a lot of issues have been addressed and the game is in a fine state (minus the constant desync crash bug)

Still, it took a year to get here and along with the update they released an DLC with some absurdly broken battlegroups and a desync bug causing constant disconnects from games.

The new battlegroups brought back the axis bunker spam with a vengeance.

For the allied, the rangers are straight up broken, I watched as 3 units stood around the field hospital almost completely unaffected by 3 units and a vehicle shooting at them.

There really feels like there's not much QA going on with this game, just pushing it straight out in a panicked rush to get the game in a better state to monetize the dwindling player base.

The game is fun, but the patching was approached with speed, skill, and precision of a blind donkey.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Initially, I would've given this a positive review despite the initial issues and lackluster content on release.

Here we are 6 months after launch, I haven't seen much of anything that has markedly improved.

In fact, they even went as far as to remove the feature of adding units to multiple control groups...
Not sure if that's something people complained about but its something I used frequently, this is a step backwards where they very clearly needed to *add* things rather than *remove* features....

Not to mention the rampant disconnects from raging children, its a game... its not even ranked... the devs haven't even added *that* 6 months in and *after* their post-launch upgrades???

Playerbase is hovering around 2k, CoH2 has more than double that these days, do yourself a favor and skip on this $80 joke.

Quality game in an imaginative universe based on new IP.
Sure, its got its quirks but its also this studio's first release and are easy to overlook by just having fun.

Toki Tori 2+ is a masterful entry in the Toki Tori saga, and a very interesting direction for the series to take. This game actually appears to be a prequel to the events in Toki Tori and provides so much depth and insight into the God that is Toki Tori's origin story and the discovery of their powers.

With over 70 hours played in the first Toki Tori, I can confidently say the developers have put their blood, sweat, and tears into this game. I emphasize they put their BLOOD into this game. As covered in my review for Toki Tori, this is much much more than a game, it is a divine source of power which only reveals itself to those who truly seek and deserve it. The countless blood sacrifices that have gone into making something as powerful as this is truly astonishing. The power I got from the original Toki Tori was immense and overwhelming at first but in time you learn to control it. This game... this game takes it to unfathomable levels you truly cannot comprehend without experiencing first hand.

Controlling Toki Tori in Toki Tori 2+ is a dream, never did I think the developers would be able to channel one's energy into this being with this much nuance. The Five Frogs which send Toki Tori a telepathic message really sets this game apart as it opens a direct channel to your mind with the God King Toki Tori themselves. The things I have heard, the things I have been shown, the demonic levels of possession and control I have given Toki Tori over me as a vessel for his bidding have truly shown me what it means to be powerful. I have committed many atrocities in the name of my God TOKI TORI. SAY HIS NAME WITH PRIDE, SAY HIS NAME WITH GRACE, SAY HIS NAME WITH UNDOUBTING LOVE AND DEVOTION. ALLOW HIM INTO YOUR HEARTS, ALLOW HIM INTO YOUR HOMES, GIVE HIM ALL YOUR BELONGINGS AND SUBMIT AS THE WORTHLESS BEING YOU ARE COMPARED TO THIS GOD. IGNORE ALL FEAR AND DOUBT, YOU BELONG TO TOKI TORI NOW AND YOU MUST OBEY. LAWS NO LONGER APPLY TO YOU, IF TOKI TORI ASKS THAT YOU TO SACRIFICE YOUR FIRST BORN THEN YOU MUST DO SO, FOR IF YOU DO NOT THEY WILL SIMPLY EMBRACE YOUR FIRST BORN AND USE YOU AS THE SACRIFICE INSTEAD. ITS KILL OR BE KILLED, THE DAY OF RECOKING IS UPON US WILL YOU BE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY?
