I'm not normally a review guy, so bare with me.

I will start off by saying that I do not recommend you buy this game unless it's on sale - it's a great game with compelling characters and a story that's really fun but it's just not worth it. The game doesn't feel DONE.

This is for a couple of reasons but if you're coming into this with a lust for the story you're not going to get what you wanted, which is fine don't get me wrong! A rougelite shooter is still a very fun game to play, this game does check all the boxes for a fun game. But the ending of the campaign leaves you completely on the edge. It doesn't really resolve much, just answers a minor mystery.

As for the gameplay itself, while it is fun I think there's ways to make it a little more fun.
I was kind of hoping for some more planet tags - different types of weather, low O2, freezing temperatures, heavy gravity, that sort of thing. I also think that a COoP could be super fun, but that's a whole ordeal to add. The energy system in place is a little lacking as well, it should put outlaws out of commission when fully out of energy otherwise it's just not really something that discourages me from playing the characters I normally play. I think it could be fun if you had to send outlaws out on a break in the drifter - it being a mysterious ship I think there's potential for some sort of explorative minigame of somekind. Not sure.

If you're curious about the story, I'm going to go more in depth here with some minor spoilers.
The campaign would've been way more compelling imo, if the bastards got to stop the main conflict at the source instead of putting a bump in the road. A minor redemption for the characters living their lives as bastards but because they're outcasts, minorities, people hurt by the world. A storyline where it doesn't justify their bad actions but mends them for the future would've been so interesting. I want to see the characters communicate and grow together as friends, a weird hodgepodge family who's come to terms with their past. These guys don't deserve to be on the run forever. I understand that the rougelite comes first, obviously not everyone's here for a compelling story; but leaving a group we've come to know as we played and the dynamics between them to just be on the run for the rest of their lives? That's not satisfying at all.

Imagine a DLC, continuing from the place the story left off at. We get to see the bastards put Chaste down for good and bring some sort of peace. Maybe they find their own place in the end. Their own Homestead. Built off of the good that they've come to grow into. Fletch is already tied deeply into time travel - so if you want a continuity that is still a bit bittersweet - expand on that. Maybe it keeps happening for the rougelite to continue. The procedural campaign continues with it being very unclear if the ending they saw was even a real fate. I dunno. I really enjoy these characters. I wish I could've learned more about their past and their future to be handled.. frankly at all. I'm not one to critique a developers intentions for their art, so maybe there's a deeper reason it ended the way it did. But I can only hope.

Possibly one of the best multiplayer games out there on steam. It's cheap yet it has hours of replability, the monster designs are outstanding and mechanically super interesting and well developed, the little bits and pieces of lore we get about the story and the planets and the beasts in the bestiary are so fun and even when you're spending time just dying to the monsters it will always be funny. It's a game you will laugh at regardless of the situation. I think that this game would be most improved with standard support of 6 players, since mods can be finicky. I'm excited to see the direction this game goes in the future.

Really great game! Outstanding art and adorable designs. Definitely best playing with a friend, can't imagine it being the same otherwise. As of right now the game came out only a few days ago so I don't expect perfection, but I do wish it had a four player mode.

this game is literally so good .

I wish i could put more words into why but i don't have a lot of them. It's just amazing. based even.

even if you aren't super into horror or card playing games I 100% recommend this game. the story is outstanding and it's all so visually interesting it's worth every penny.

best game ever. be careful about the bugs tho. lots of them. save frequently. i wish this game was still supported, there's no game quite like spore and I'm at the end of my saves and can't do more for it.
