What a journey. This game is so weird in all the right ways.
From a gameplay perspective, it's a great deckbuilder (with some roguelike elements), with some additional eventual puzzle solving. From a story perspective, it's a great horror/mystery story. It's super engaging on both fronts.
It's also incredibly unique, though trying to explain that would spoil the experience.
The main mode doesn't overstay its welcome (~12h), and there is post-game content / challenges. I'm writing this review after only playing that main mode; maybe I'll come back for the rest someday, but I'm quite satisfied as it stands for now.
It's also not that difficult, and the game has mechanics in place to make it easier to continue if you do fail.
Give it a shot. I don't think there's anything else like it out there.

Inscryption is a brilliant 3-hour demo for a game that doesn't actually exist. The first act is a masterclass in atmosphere and deck-building, set in a creepy, high-stakes cabin that feels like a classic in the making. Then, the game intentionally throws all of that away for a "twist" that feels like a significant downgrade.

The Frustrations:
The Bait and Switch: The marketing and the first few hours sell you on a dark, atmospheric 3D roguelike. After Act 1, the game shifts into a flat 2D pixel-art style and then a sterile sci-fi setting that loses all the tension and charm of the cabin.

Act 2/3 Drag: While Act 1 is a tight roguelike, the later acts become a repetitive, linear slog. The card mechanics become significantly less interesting, and the meta-narrative (the "video footage" story) feels like a generic creepypasta that interrupts the gameplay rather than enhancing it.

Loss of Mystery: Once the game "pulls back the curtain," the horror element completely evaporates. What starts as an unsettling mystery ends as a confusing, Fourth-Wall-breaking mess that tries too hard to be "deep."

If you only want the cabin experience, just play the first act and stop—or play Kaycee’s Mod (the official endless mode). The actual "campaign" is a disappointing journey of diminishing returns.
