i think shmups are really cool but i'm not very experienced with them, if you're anything like me then this is a must-play. the game's structure and the way it handles lives and continues makes it generally forgiving but still encourages you to push yourself, and it asks more and more of you bit by bit, eventually in ways that are so surprising and bold that i dare not spoil it

zeroranger is a game about just being in the now, enjoying the moment to moment gameplay for what it is and not worrying so much about whether you succeed or not at your end goal, it will just come naturally, you'll surprise yourself with what you can achieve if you persevere, and overcoming this game's ultimate challenge has been one of the most gratifying experiences i've had with a game in a long time

it helps that zeroranger is just a joy to be around in every respect, its two-tone colour pallette is handled masterfully, it's a unique look that manages to never look dull or repetitive, nor is the action ever hard to read; it's an amazing blend of inspired art direction, skillful shading, and great enemy design. the music is just astonishly good 100% of the time and fits every scenario to a tee, every level feels like just one satisfying setpiece after another, the effect and audio design is top notch, stuff like the title cards and boss warnings and results screens are so flashy and slick, it has like at least four cute girls in it which is very important, i could just go on and on i am absolutely enamoured with this game. buy it pleeeeaaassseee

great game, visually and mechanically engaging from start to finish with great music and a narrative that was conveyed creatively that i also related to on a personal level

i ran into an issue in the last encounter of the second level where one of the enemies wouldn't spawn, leaving me locked in the room unable to progress, which wasn't ideal but easily solved by closing and opening the game again

aside from that small thing i highly recommend this game, it packs a punch within its short runtime and has plenty of extras such as a speedrun mode and an endless mode if you want to delve deeper into the game's excellent mechanics
