This game is playing as Van Helsing set in Red Dead Revolver while Uncharted plays in the background and the original God of War can be heard partying next door. Remnant was invited to that party, but came to Evil West to be nice, and is now regretting that choice, idly staring into its glass.

I got this as a gift from a friend, so for that price it's fine. But I really can't recommend anyone else pick it. The gameplay is just good enough that it feels like it needed another six months of polish to get it to something great. What really drags it down for me though is the writing and dialogue - I'm all for campy and weird, but it's like every sentence doesn't even relate to the one that came before it when two people are talking to each other. There's cutscenes that end with your character in some location, only for you to start the level in an entirely different place. It's all just so disjointed and badly written and distracting. I think what makes it even more frustrating is just how much potential was here. There's some legitimately cool worldbuilding underlying all of this and it just crumbles under abysmal dialogue and atrocious story boarding.

This is one of those kinds a games that I typically gravitate too quite readily, but unfortunately everything this game does is simply done better by other games. Its attempts at introducing any uniqueness to the formula simply feels like clutter. I feel like the actual game mechanics could have used an editor. Also the UI is so stylized its actually just unreadable and gives me a headache.

I could definitely see some people being in love with this, but it's not something I can recommned.

If these devs teamed up with the devs from Shipbreaker and made a baby, it would be the most beautiful baby ever.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” -Leonardo da Vinci, 1452

This game takes poker and makes it a single player rogue-lite through a clever use of modifiers from multiple distinct sources and somehow manages to make it all so simple to understand. The greater your personal awareness of game design, the greater your appreciation for this game will be. This is one of very few games that I consider beautiful on a mechanical level.

For a game so heavily reliant on story, it isn't a good sign when there are typos and grammatical errors within seconds of launching the game.

I can't believe this game looks this awful. Titanfall came out in 2014. There's no excuse.

I'm going to give this a recommendation, but I must admit that most of the reason is because I love indie projects like this and I want to support them. It is legitimately impressive and creative - there is no doubt that this was made with a great deal of love and dedication. There is a vast amount content that surely took an incredible amount of time to create.

However, the primary reason I can't settle on a legitimately positive review is audio quality and acting. The Narrator (et al) does a fine job. Not spectacular, but I have no complaints. The princess, I'm sorry to say, is just bad. Her delivery is pretty flat and it sounds like she's just reading the script out loud most of the time. The audio recording for her was likely done with a completely different microphone as well, and it sounds like it even peaks at times. I think she may not have been consistent with her distance from the microphone while recording, too. I'm sorry to be harsh on her performance, because I do think she was trying, but in the end, it just sounds like she was chosen because she was available.

The overall premise of the game is really the biggest success, but the moment to moment dialogue and plot are just kinda...fine. Nothing really blew my mind, nothing really bad either. I don't think I would call it scary at all, but I suppose that's probably the most subjective aspect of any work.

TL;DR: Check it out if you love indie passion projects.
