I haven't finished it yet, but so far the game is delivering. Some answers and even more questions. An interesting and unique gameplay loop. Cool graphics. Cool story.

Early Access Review
Expected it to be good. Yet it's a very well written masterpiece. Kinda sad I didn't notice it being early access, I just can't wait for the upcoming episodes.

The game is good. The dev made the effort to code every animal behaviour and animation system from scratch, as well as the items. So it's a game unlike one you've ever seen because it's very organic. The world is beautiful and while being vey dense, 7 years of playtesting allow the player to browse it seemlessy thanks to its coherence.
There is nothing bad about this game.

Also stop saying "omg it's 34MB Billy is a wizard", it has stopped being funny. A very advanced program will be short in size if you don't use tons of librairies / engines, which is the dev's philosophy. Nothing too surprising.

Hi.
I didn't like this game. Then I saw a review saying that people not liking the games were just lazy bastards not trying for long enough. So, in order to prove this wrong, I invested efforts into the game. For 2000s standards, it's a very nice game. For today's ones, it's kinda bad tbh.
I went far enough without any wiki or extra help, even obtaining a < 10% success. I mastered the movement... but I still hate it. It's quite frustrating, in particular the stupid whip attack. It helps give difficulty and a need for absurd precision, but even after 15 hours of intense tryhard it still feels risky to use it.

It's nice that there is a lot to learn, but every new step is hard to reach : you have to clear the same levels over and over just to insta die in the newer ones. There is a shortcut mechanic but it does not stop you from experiencing this.

I like the more hidden mechanics I found but they are not that fancy.

Probably, Spelunky 1 has inspired lots of better roguelikes such as spirits abyss. But spelunky 2 is just Spelunky 1 refined from what I understand. Like very similar. So yeah I would personally not recommend this game to anyone .

[Adverstising the best roguelike ever made : Noita. No platforming in this one, but it is known to be damn hard as well. Only difference is that you can improve your experience by actually mastering it. All about knowledge.]

Edit : thank you for your kind steam point donations, I'm sorry that you probably play this game on a regular basis though :(
