I think Dawntrail's main issue is that It's a story people might need to hear, but not one everyone can handle. It's a very exposing story that a lot of people can be uncomfortable with and it requires a level of media literacy that most who casually play the game might not have.

I don't think the writing is a bad as people give it. Remember there was a time y'all hated Stormblood too.

In light of recent events and rumblings about the main dev's own spending habits, I cannot in good faith recommend this game, nor the series, to anyone. Period.

Five Nights as Freddy's was, and still is, a master class in horror setting with a very unique twist that just wasn't seen a lot in the genre at it's time. It's a game that changed the YouTube landscape as we see it, and it's "ARG-Style" of storytelling was a genuine thrill to look into as the series progressed. Sure it may have been "simple" and "not well thought out" in some places, but the game was designed in a very unique way, so unique that it quite literally allowed Markiplier's YouTube carrier to go too the moon, on top of the huge culture impact that it had.

But so long as Scott Cawthon lives, I urge you to pick up something else. The "Death of the Author" theory still relies on the creator no longer profiting off their franchise in order to take effect, something that is still happening in this day an age with the new games. It is a shame? Yes! It is! Indie Horror is a genre that NEEDS new blood in it to mix it up, and people that are able to put a spin on the formula are very much needed! FNAF was genuinely something that SHOOK the genre to it's core! It was a great game, and it still is after all this time! There are so many things I can gush about when it comes to this game but... At the end of the day, none of what I say about this game would change the dev's spending habits any more than what you'd say.

Good Indie Horror is hard to come by, and lucky for us, there's a few out there you can try aside from this.
-Tattletale: If you liked the artistic style of FNAF, Tattletale has that flair present in it's games, with a good anti-corp message to boot that aligns with FNAF's themes as well!
-Iron Lung: The devs of ULTRAKILL made a game that has a few of the same "sit-and-survive' mechanics pressent in FNAF, with a much better execution that can lead to a genuinely terrifying climax.
-Lethal Company: Yeah the dev is a furry, still doesn't matter that this Co-op Survival Horror game was quite littarly one of the best games of 2023.

Look.

A lot of you are going to get this game and not like it.

Don't compare this to Metal Gear's pacing or gameplay or you're going to disappoint yourself. Relax and take in the setting, and learn the game as you go along at the pace Kojima wanted you to go.

I'll be honest. I didn't like CS:GO. Not my style, I'm used to Source more.

But at least give it a fair shot.
