Early Access Review
Game seems like it could be fun, but despite being above recommended specs and on lowest settings, it crashes and freezes every few minutes, shame Im not going to be able to experience the game due to this

Notice how not a single negative review has actually put in more than 10 minutes and gotten into the actual game
Usually not a fan of text based games, but the world here is super interesting, 3 hours in and Ive barely mapped it out

So far, Silksong is everything I wanted it to be, the combat and platforming is incredibly fun and feels amazing, the NPCs are interesting and make the world really feel alive and the quest system is a pretty fun idea to give you something to do while backtracking.

There are however a few cons of the game so far, as someone who is pretty good at HK, Silksong is INCREDIBLY difficult at times
-Difficulty ramps up IMMEDIATELY, bosses start dealing 2 masks of damage right out of the first zone, meaning your health is ALWAYS effectively half of what you have (essentially 3 hits and youre dead early game), I feel like alot of bosses could have this problem mitigated if only some special attacks dealt extra damage, but even touching a boss dealing double damage is ridiculous, not to mention tools that increase the damage you take potentially making you take 3 masks of damage. Hell, they got it right with basic enemies who have 1 mask attacks and occasional, long windup 2 mask attacks
-Run ups, my above points about bosses are not helped by how long some boss runups are, benches can be a good minute away from the boss room at any time and the route can be swarmed with enemies, sure, Hornet is fast but if you dont perfectly avoid everything you start the boss with less health and since you take double damage you could have effectively taken half youre health in damage just from taking 2 damage on the way
-It remains to be seen but some of the early game feels a little linear compared to HK, however the game opens up alot with many different routes pretty soon after, im sure different routes will be found

I should probably list some positives since that list of negatives is so long, so ill reiterate I am in love with this game, its been an incredible experience
-Crests. Crests are such a fun system for player expression and have such interesting differences, I think some crests could have their tool slot moves around to make them more viable, but its been fun discovering new crests to experiment with
-Tools. Red tools are so fun to find and so fun to use, every red tool has its place in certain areas or against certain bosses and not a single one seems useless so far, blue tools and yellow tools arent as useful most of the time, but since its free to equip them I find myself swapping them out often for different scenarios, alot more engaging to me than charms with two viable builds.
-Combat. Combat is incredible, Hornet controls so well and it actually feels like i can combo enemies into my other attacks or tools, its so much more fun than "attack, attack, spell", Im thinking of the best move to use in the moment and where I can slip in a few attacks or tools

All in all, even if some of the bosses are evil and kicking my ass, Silksong is all it was promised to be and more, this game feels like a step in the right direction almost entirely across the board, worth the wait

This game feels like a practice run/beta for the sequel. Full of questionable and infuriating design such as manual saves ON A LIMITED RESOURCE. I loved the second game but cant bring myself to slog through this one. Maybe id have liked it if I had played it first, but Will of The Wisps stands head and shoulders over Blind Forest

Enjoying the game so far, the gameplay is fun and the story is interesting

The boss battles are neither, as of now ive stopped playing due to how infuriating the bosses are to the point that I have no idea if they were even playtested at all. The bosses are not hard per say, but each fight is incredibly long and drawn out for the simple sake of it and a lack of variety in the bosses themselves does not make the length of the fight fun, each boss has pretty much 2 attacks (some even have 1) , 3 if you are lucky, and each fight can be minutes long. Coupled with 1 hit to die and no checkpoints makes an otherwise good game and absolute slog. Anyone whos played the game can likely guess what boss has caused me to quit playing, and I likely wont pick it back up until some sort of fix is introduced.

Also also, the soundtrack is amazing everywhere but the boss battles, which doesnt help alleviate the tedium of playing one for the 15th time
