This game is Art - and like all Art, it's not for everybody. Team Cherry has created an uncompromising masterpiece aimed at players who've delved deep into Hollow Knight and enjoyed mastering its combat. These players will likely adore Silksong; the skill ceiling and combat depth are way higher now, both regarding Hornet's moveset and enemy difficulty and complexity. Hornet handles like a dream and requires a higher degree of mastery to keep up with all but the most basic of enemies. This is great for players like me who enjoy the process of "gitting gud" but brings us to why some players won't enjoy the game, quality be damned.

Silksong is hard. Not just that, but punishing as well. This is very deliberate, and feels incredibly rewarding once you overcome what the game throws at you, but it comes at the cost of accessibility. If you play games to chill out and relax, chances are that the frustration factor may be too high for your tastes. Even if you liked Hollow Knight, if what kept you playing was mainly the exploration and atmosphere, and you preferred a more shallow involvement with combat, snubbing the Colosseum and Godhome, Silksong may end up being "too much". A tragedy, given Silksong's excellent worldbuilding and ludonarrative harmony (translation: you'll get to intimately feel the pain of what it means to be an inhabitant of Pharloom).

If you are new to Hollow Knight and Silksong and want to give them a go, I would recommend playing Hollow Knight first. Silksong was designed to give veteran Hollow Knight players the "first time spankings" experience all over again, with all that entails.

I waited years.

the moment I pressed New Game, all my life responsibilities vanished.

Combat? Crisp.
Movement? Illegal levels of smooth.
Music? Makes me stand still just to listen while enemies politely wait to kill me.

This game doesn’t respect your time —

This game is 100% worth your time and money. I mean, you don't really need me to tell you that, but it is. I've got a stupid number of games, that I haven't even played all of and yet, I've dumped hours into this game, because aside from ethical reasons, it's worth it. Even if you don't play it, it's worth it.

Let's be honest, this game is hard. It's gonna start off easy, and be like, "Yo, you're having a good time, right?" Then you're gonna hit a section of the game that's gonna amp up the platforming a bit, and it's punishing. If you're good with that, awesome. If you're not, you're gonna take a break and come back to it and beat the crap out of it... or be barely hanging onto life, but victorious.

The game is 100% worth it. Buy it, play it. Don't play it, support the studio, I don't care.

I'm gonna beat it, but probably never on Steelsoul mode. Cause my soul is made of flimsy napkins, that break at the first touch. That's why I play video games. Cause I can protect my Nappy Soul. :)
