I'm walking through the woods in Appalachia with my best friend, except there's some spooky stuff going on and...well, you'll see.

Great game. I enjoyed every single minute of it and uncovering everything there is to uncover within it. Please play it blind and enjoy the weird. I mean, enjoy this nice and charming gardening sim.

If an escape room game could be said to be cozy, then this is that game. It's not very difficult, but it still has some interesting puzzles. It's short, though I did still play through it a couple times looking for possible secrets.

Early Access Review
I've been playing it awhile with a couple friends, since the devs gave us early keys. So far, after all this time, my opinion is: this game is a TON of fun in co-op, and they added several QoL features that make it feel very good to play with others:

-your heals can be used by anyone on your team, since you throw them on the ground and they persist as puddles.
-you can instantly warp to your teammate/s by holding "down" on the d-pad (not sure what the bind is on kb)
-there is no uncomfortable split-screen if you get too far from one-another, and the game doesn't try to force you to stay on the same screen (that wouldn't work here because of the speed of the game.)

For all of these reasons, and more, this is currently one of my favorite co-op games. It's a lot of fun to zoom around, and there is a lot of variety in the attacks and weapon unlocks so far, from alter-attacks that have you chaining together combos between your two weapons, to the shatter mechanic, to the unlockable R2/Right Trigger animal "summons" that add even more powerful options. There's a lot going on, and it is great fun to use all of these abilities in concert.
There is also at least one alternate stage so far, meaning you won't have to go through the same biomes each time after they update the game more. I feel a lot of cool stuff is on the way, and that makes me excited.
That said, while each biome does look different, the gameplay in each is exactly the same. While that's not really a BAD thing, since that gameplay is a ton of fun, some alternate challenges, or even puzzley-elements, that take place specific to each biome would help make each feel more unique. We typically get together "for a couple runs" and end up playing for 4 hours. So, yes, it is good.
We have already finished multiple runs to the current end of content and have been unlocking everything there is to unlock. There's a lot.

I'll be rewriting and updating this review as time goes on, but: YES, I do highly-recommend this game for fans of rogue-lites. Even if you *don't* really play rogue-lites, you should give this one a try. It's got that same pick-up-and-play "gotta go fast" gameplay as Sonic games, especially the early ones, tbh.

While I've played some solo, the ease of playing it in co-op, and the strengths of its co-op gameplay, make it by far one of my favorite co-op games to play right now.
I can't wait to see what else the devs cook up!

More psychological than horror, but the story is very well-written. It’s short and it’s linear, but it will surprise and shock you. I enjoyed my time with it. Just keep in mind that it will get very disturbing by the end.

A truly great and unique take on turn-based, strategic RPGs. PHENOMENAL music. Interesting gameplay. The graphics of the sky and nature were emphasized over that of the characters, so they were usually huge in comparison. Even though those characters were very minimally-detailed, graphically, I still grew connected to them because of the beautiful yet absolutely brutal themes. Some of the scenes were gut-wrenching, but I enjoyed every minute of this game.

Great little game! It doesn't overstay its welcome and it is knowledge-gated in the best ways, similar to something like Outer Wilds. Go in blind!

I have played over 175 hours at this point and am a lover of videogame secrets. This game exists in multiple layers, as you may have heard:
layer 1: normal "metroidbrainia" where you acquire items to help pass areas and solve puzzles, then go for an endgame.
layer 2: "100%ing" the game by finding and gathering all of a hidden collectable, which leads to another endgame.
layer 3: post-game insane secrets that keep going deeper, and deeper, and deeper...
layer 4: ?!?!?

If you enjoy secrets in games - that feeling of "wow, they actually thought of this?!" then you have found your new obsession. If you are a fan of Fez, Tunic, Environmental Station Alpha, Noita, La-Mulana, Rain World, etc. then you owe it to yourself to sink into this Well.

The game is also gorgeous, sounds great, plays great, is extremely fast and optimized and has almost no bugs...well, not any that will effect 99% of players. The fact that it fits within 34mb is INSANE because the depth of content reached so far is staggering.

You know what's cool, too? Playing Animal Well feels like playing something classic, like one of the 8 or 16 bit Super Marios. It just feels like something you can start up and just run through for fun because the movement is so enjoyable and the mechanics are so simple, yet deceptively complex.
And then there's the sequence breaking adding that other layer of fun, if you get into that sort of thing.
And then there's the secrets on top of secrets on top of secrets on top of secrets that add even more depth.
Billy Basso...
Good Job.

This game is FANTASTIC! If you are a fan of the La-Mulana games, then you're in for a real treat. I've been waiting for any news of Naramura's / Nigoro's next game and, until then, we've got this absolute unit. I can't believe it's free! I was expecting it to be less polished, but no, it is very nice. Looks nice. Feels nice. It's definitely scratching that temple of doom itch. Plus, PLUS, it also contains creatures from Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos.
I'm shocked and very happy. I am currently only 3 hours in, but I can't imagine anything making me not recommend it, since I'm a huge La-Mulana 1+2 fan.
If you've never played La-Mulana: this is not your typical metroidvania. It is a game filled with riddles and secrets, requiring you to think and take notes (though the in-game journal is a very nice feature for keeping track of everything) and there is some very precise and difficult retro-style platforming and combat as well. If you enjoy exploration and puzzles, and the idea of entering a dark temple filled with deadly traps, snap it up and give it a go. It's great!

This game is an absolute treasure. There are bugs, though. It is fairly easy to get soft-locked, unfortunately. I got soft-locked during my first playthrough because I'm an explorey wizard and I was backtracking constantly and I messed up the quest progress.
Anyway, regardless of all that, I did still very much enjoy playing through this twice. I might even return for a 3rd playthrough because I know I missed a few things at the end - but only after the dev fixes the worst bugs.

Anyway, I hope that Torple Dook is doing better and that they return to fix some of these bugs (or incorporate multiple save states) soon. For now, just proceed with caution. It's a really cool game with ALL the memes. I do recommend it, despite the bugs, just maybe back up your save while you enjoy the experience!

I forgot the most important part, if you really want to know the ultimate secret ORT ORT
