Sadly, this mod is practically ancient (4+ years ago), so it's no wonder the defines are extremely outdated. I haven't modded CK2, or even played it in-depth, for years now. I still harbor some desire to play again someday (maybe after the upcoming religious DLC which interests me) and perhaps work on this mod, maybe, but nowadays my job in project management takes most of my time/attention, so it's a farshot if I'll ever be able to update this mod, as much as I'd really like to pick up where I left off.

I spotted a bug I had not hit yet. For some reason, the defines requires the start and end dates. I have no idea why, becouse at this point it shouldn't.

I think I got my copy of this mod working, but I do not know how to check if it still functions. In order, I removed 2 folders that were NOT common or localisation (doubt that did anything, they appear to of had one texture between them), then I removed everything that was not required for Nmilitary or within it from defines.lua , then I turned defines.lua into defines.txt (If I recall correctly, that one made it CTD part way through load instead of instantly), and then I removed every instance of replace_path. This stopped CTDs entirely. I have not deleted anything that I think may of had an impact on the function of the mod, besides that I do not know if replace_path is strictly required for functioning.

It's always still on the back of my mind. Perhaps in the future I may be free enough to work on it again, but nowadays I barely have enough sleep daily much less free time.

no, not currently. all my mod efforts are currently in statis/hiatus as I'm about to take my licensure exam by October's end. until then, I'm focusing my time on reviewing (... in theory)

I'm just so used to tweaking the files, though, so either I'll wait until you make that ck2+ compatible version, or I'll tweak the files and then wait for the official compatible version, of which I'll do the latter, 'cuz I'm not used to waiting for mods to be compatible, sadly.

you could just merge the defines.lua changes, or better yet just remove the defines.lua for now.

I'm planning to make a ck2+ compatible version ... once I graduate (in a couple of weeks)

I know that this mod is basically incompatible with CK2+ somewhat... but I also know that I can tweak the files that are used by both mods, so that both mods are compatible with each other... which is what I usually do when I have two mods with defines.lua

the shieldwall is indeed a skirmish tactic - specifically it's a shieldformation-type of defensive tactic for infantry-heavy armies. basically, it increases their skirmish defence, reducing heavy infantry casualties from skirmish-strong unit types before the melee phase proper. it has a bonus against cavalry-strike types of skirmish tactics, but is slightly weak against infantry-screening types of skirmish tactics.
so yeah, it's WAD. it's technically not compatible with Panzuriel's mod, since we tweak the same files, but a lot of inspiration of mechanics for this mod was borrowed from his ideas anyway. it's a future project of mine to expand all tactics even further, but I just can't find the time (and more importantly, morale) to do so.

I've noticed that sometimes generals will use 'shieldwall' and other types of melee combat focused tactics during the skirmishing phase. Plans to fix? (and, is this compatible with Panzuriel's mod?)

as for the terrain, it's textures/stuff that one of our members made as well (technically, it was also primarily made for another mod, but I adopted it all the same, because it fits the mood better)

I'm pretty sure it is from lux invicta, since I primarily wrote this mod as a component there first, hahaha.
that said, the screenie is from a post-RoI build (we haven't properly released a version that involves the Umbra Spherae-derived map that goes to India though aside from the undocumented v6k and our internal SVN build). the minimap is something we adopted from... somewhere (not a mod, but rather a map one of us found, IIRC either Numahr or DarkReborn, if not futuregary, and adopted as a minimap)

it does need an update for Charlemagne (patch 2.2), but I'm currently busy with my finals exams, so it'll have to wait until my finals week is over (roughly within a week)

this mod suddenly doesnt work, tried it with other mods and just on its own. Was working fine one day and crashes the game the next. Does it need an update?

while it's still a WIP, hopefully it does meet expectations (at least the skirmish part, which is the only part I've actually worked on so far, aside from adopting B.A. tactics as a placeholder)

This has much potential, as I've always had a slight dislike for the combat system. It's not the CK2-Total War hybrid I wish for, but it's a damn fine step in the right direction. I'll have to give this a try.

if you're using HIP, you'll need to use the HIP version. The ck2+ version will have to wait until CK2+ is actually available for release again. Aside from that, there's lux invicta, but it's already directly integrated (in the future releases).

you CAN use this however with ANY mods, but you'll need to manually extract the file and delete the common/defines.lua (which comprises the Rebalance module). Then it'll be compatible with any mod.
Doing this however makes unit stats and morale/death factors will be dependent on either vanilla or whatever the mod has set it [usually vanilla values - few really care enough about the combat aspect to tweak it.] ).
