thank you very much

You can copy this mod or some other UI mod files, and then tweak them to your liking. It can be a little annoying at first not knowing what exactly does what, but it's worth it to get it to where you want it sometimes.

I would suggest that you do the following.

First, look at the image file that is associated with the mod. Turn anything you don't want invisible in that image file.

Next, make all numbers related to positioning for the UI elements negative in the code files. Minus 1 should do. X is horizontal. Y is vertical. Then, one by one start making the numbers positive and checking how much they move. If I remember correctly, the position numbers are relative. This means that if you figure out what is the max width, which could be something like 10, then you know that making a value 1 will put that UI element right at the left or top edge, and 9 would put it on the right or bottom edge.

Play around a little and see what you can come up with.

its bascially the only ui with such small health bar
Unwanted 3/ago./2024 às 11:59
hello, what setting decrease the health bar size? I am trying to fiddle this mod with other ui mods (tried flexible, compact, less cluttered dark ui)

However, all come with drawbacks, Thankyou, however this one ruins the immersion (ofc the game misses it by itself to begin with) by the green health bar. Id also like to remove the whole stuff on the right, except for the time and money, which need to be somewhere else then, though, otherwise it would look like ugly,

The white text, which has already been discussed, might be best changed to a dark gray tone.

I think on 16:9 screens the ui looks best when moved to the corners. Compact does this, but the main char top left is a no go for the reach.

the absolute best would be a very flat, horizontal health-bar ui on the screen bottom. The game just looks so much better with less and only functional/pretty ui

Not meant to offend. Maybe someone has similar experience. Peace out

No problem, since there's not much other to discuss here
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 8:42
Added you on Steam so I do not spam your mod anymore.. sorry.
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 8:37
Oh V.4 gonna see what you have been working now :D
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 7:05
Good stuff! I'll have a look at those colors now since I think most of my other stuff is getting there.
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 6:18
Hmmm... Thanks I will take another look later. I had to work... bah. :Mancubus:

Yeah I got GIMP ready for .dds changes

Yeah I more or less just changed the Color XML.. or replaced it with default XML

I also deleted that white tin you had added "haha..." To Inventory/items.
Just be simply replacing it with orginal file. As I did not see any major changes in there.

But again very thankfull for all the aid, it's gold worth. :praisesun::KneelingBow:
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 5:57
"gui/gfx/Kenshi_UI.png" is the file you're looking for.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 5:56
The colors are in the graphics folder as an image, so you can change them to whatever you like using a program called paint.net or something like that. I can't remember what file type it is, but even regular paint might be able to handle it. If it's .dds then it will probably need a better program to edit.

The text colors however are in the .xlm file. I can't remember which one does which, and some text is shared by two colors. As an example, there is text that has a different color as a first bracket in a sentence, and then the color changes in the second brackets or something like that.

I was lazy and changed everything to white, and then tried to find which ones needed to be a different color, and then I didn't change the rest back, which I probably should do at some point but it's not bothering me that much.

Well I guess I can call it progress.. Not what I really wanted but hey.

Nope I cannot get the colors to change... got a tip?
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 4:23
ofc the color XML... you fool of a took... :jarate:
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 4:22
Yeah I always do, I do make my own version by renaming.
Had like 150 mods, down to like 50 now by merging and optimizing them. :praisesun:

But do you have a tip for the colors?
Been trying to same method but color do not change *hmm*
And the values also look quite the same so why the diffrent color. :eaglegag:
Do they choose color pallet from a place?

Thanks again :cleanfloppy:
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 3:59
Nice one!

BTW, be sure to make a backup of your own edited file, since every time I update this mod, the file will get overwritten and you don't want to repeat the same thing over and over again. I have some changes coming up that I was unsure of but now have gotten used to so I will probably leave them in the mod and upload it the next time I get a chance. If you've done some other changes it's best to create a backup of those as well. Although the change is relatively simple to make, it might become annoying to do it every upload.
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 3:56
Done and works!:praisesun: thanks for the aid.

I was editing in the wrong tab and the wrong line.
Copied default squad window text and pasted into your mod.

Plug and play... Just need to edit the right one.. lol Therefor no "effect"

ScreenShot: https://gyazo.com/4efadee887e7d66cd57444fb53cf2151

Now I am gonna enjoy some less UI :cactusrum::dustwich::holyflame:
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 3:55
I'll see if I get a free spot to change things, but I am currently play testing almost all my mods so I might not get a chance to handle this in a while. If you need additional info I'll try to help more!
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 3:33
Hoi

Yeah I tried to do something similar but had no "effect" But I will give it another try.
Thanks!
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 2:59
The numbers are relative to other things, and the main panels are relative to the screen. You will have numbers from 0 to 1, where 1 is the right or bottom edge of the screen on a main panel, and 0 is the starting points on the left and top. If there are buttons that belong to a panel, like the squad members' heads in their squares, those are relative to the main panel and no the screen.

This should get you started, although it might be a little complex to try and do if you don't happen to have any experience with this type of stuff. If you do, it can be a hassle to find the correct numbers to change and I think this is usually where a modder comes in to do the work of figuring out which is which. I've been updating all my mods for a while now, so I forget the exact last thing I have done when I move on to the next one, but I think these instructions should be relatively accurate.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 23/fev./2023 às 2:56
Hey, been stuck on other things, but I can always do tips.

You can move the numbered mod folder into the Kenshi /mods folder and change the name to Stripped UI and then begin editing.

You can open up a file in the mod folder called gui/layout/Kenshi_MainPanel.layout
Also open a file of that same name in the same path in the Kenshi/data folder.

In those files, use search to find name="SquadPanel">

Now you can copy the four number on the left side of this text from the data folder and paste them on top of the mod file. If that isn't enough, you can take a lot more of the text and paste it in over the text in the other file. This is the easiest way to revert this change.

You can also copy the entire file original file in the data folder, and paste it over the entire mod file, so that all the changes are reverted, and then you can look around to see if you want to change things to your liking.
Doiq 23/fev./2023 às 1:06
Any progress on the squad window or any tips on how? :cactusrum:
Lawh  [autor(a)] 20/fev./2023 às 3:20
You can also check the controls in the options menu and see what button does what. It's even possible to get rid of the different commands and so on, but I think remembering them all would be too much of a pain.
Doiq 20/fev./2023 às 2:34
Page up and Page Down on keyboard will set you free my man:praisesun:
CuulG 20/fev./2023 às 2:27
hey could you add the floor level button back? i cant get up or down floors and i dont know if there's a keybind to do so
Lawh  [autor(a)] 19/fev./2023 às 8:29
Gotcha, I'll see what I can do! And you too!
Doiq 19/fev./2023 às 7:49
Thanks for the quick feedback:KneelingBow:, no worries. Just been looking for a new UI and I do not like the dark UI etc etc. This one was more into my liking ^^ But the squad window size was a no go for me. So I have it disabled for now. But subbed to the thread so, just call out if you have done a change and I will come runnning. :2017meatball: Have a good day!
Lawh  [autor(a)] 19/fev./2023 às 7:24
I'll have a look at these things once I get a chance!

I think today I am going to be AFK for most of the day. I can however try to give you a hand in making the edits.

The font color is a remnant of me trying to find which font was which and I was too lazy to revert them one at a time, but it has to be done at some point.
Doiq 19/fev./2023 às 3:58
Tried to make some edits myself..with no luck. I am to dumb for the UI stuff.. *sad day* :feste:
Doiq 19/fev./2023 às 3:34
On the color part: Lower the brightness of the red and white with like 10%
Green is good IMO.

Kenshi has an over all washed down coloer pallet, I suggest no going to far off that.
Makes your colors feel "fake"

I even noticed when I was lanching the game that the Menu font colors were also changed.
Nothing wrong in that, but again I suggest getting an more off-white color.

Easier on the eyes over hours of game play.

Really hope you can take give it a try, becuase I really want to use your mod.

Health bar color is okay to me. but if you want to you can lower it the same amount, but not a must.

Thanks again for the work you put in! :praisesun:
Doiq 19/fev./2023 às 3:27
Hello!
The UI looks quite good, But are you able to increase the squad window sizes? or made a addon to the mod.

Because if you can make the squad window like 10 long (now 7) and increase the size.
Because right now for me they are so tiny. After you add 4 people to a squad they shrink like mad.
Like: "Stripped UI with BIG squad windows. or something.

Because the squad UI is to me the only thing I use alot. min-managing now I have a hard time clicking them.

PS: Like others have said. Maybe recolor the skeleton health bars to a diffrent color away from "living" things

Thanks!:holyflame:
Lawh  [autor(a)] 17/fev./2023 às 8:33
Me too! If the colors on the health bar are too bright let me know, since that was a new addition and it didn't even end up looking like what was wanted :D But I got used to it and it actually works pretty good.
CuulG 17/fev./2023 às 7:52
this is amazing i always thought it took way too much of the screen
Lawh  [autor(a)] 12/fev./2023 às 11:01
Looks good! Sometimes if maybe a person is not that familiar with file locations and so on, things can seem overwhelming, when in fact it's pretty simple if you understand it. Since you could easily do this, the only thing I can think of is mod load order if you have any separate GUI mods. Combining them like you did is the best option and will give you exactly what you want. If you have more than one GUI mod, the smallest mod, and the changes you want to happen on top of another mod should be below the main GUI mod. This might also already be familiar to you as well, so I think you're pretty much set to make it your own!
Rackocloon 12/fev./2023 às 10:55
Thank you for the explanation. It is really that simple just crop, copy and paste with Paint 3D so you do not lose the transparency. I added the icons from Dark UI (including the eye) and the health bars I wanted. Take a look and give it a try:

Lawh  [autor(a)] 12/fev./2023 às 9:32
In your files, you will find an image file. "..Kenshi/data/gui/gfx/kenshi_ui.png"

Then you can go to your steam workshop folder and find the Dark UI mod. All the folders are numbered, so you'll have to go through them and first find Kenshi, and then find the correct mod. In that mod folder, it probably has the same path, but it will definitely have the same name as the vanilla file mentioned above.

You can copy the vanilla file and save it as a backup. Then you can open the Dark UI file in paint, copy the things you like, and paste them into the vanilla file on top of the things you want to change. This explanation is more complicated that it the actual process. basically it's a copy paste kind of job so long as you find the files.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 12/fev./2023 às 9:27
Since there are so few downloads on this mod, I think we can have pretty equal say between the two of us how things should be, so no worries. I actually like it this way, though those colors are very extreme. I'll have to play a while to have a look at them a bit more and give me time to get annoyed by them.

I can tell you how to do it and it's actually pretty simple since it doesn't even need the editor! ->>
Rackocloon 12/fev./2023 às 9:24
The colors in health bars and fight warning ones are prefect in Dark UI: https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1200632417&searchtext=ui

I tried to mix them with your UI but I don't really know how. If you can manage to merge them with your work it will be perfect.

Your original work was great and I think we should go back to the previous version. I was just rambling for more vivid colors on those areas, just not that much. Of course, you are the author and you have the final say. I still appreciate you taking the time to listen to me.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 12/fev./2023 às 7:31
I made all the changes! Let me know how they feel. I have no idea what colors you're used to, but these ought to be intuitive and definitely more apparent.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 11/fev./2023 às 17:52
Ah gotcha! Yeah I think I might be able to do something about that, perhaps today unless I find myself stuck again. I'll let you know here once I have done some changes.

I think at least the red when being attacked is a great idea that shouldn't take too long.
Rackocloon 11/fev./2023 às 13:47
I was referring to the health bars base colors. They are not bad but they could be a bit more vivid; more green / blue (skeleton) when fine and orangish when injured. Same as with the flashing red background when your character gets attacked, bit more intensity as it can easily missed.

I find the font to be fine as I personally have no issue reading it. If it can be edited or changed by a font mod, then I see no problem.
Lawh  [autor(a)] 11/fev./2023 às 6:27
I'm not going to be able to make the changes today, but I was thinking about it, and did you try to change font size to make it a little more clear?
Lawh  [autor(a)] 11/fev./2023 às 2:11
You mean having larger health bars? I think I could manage that at some point, though I am a bit stuck with something at the moment and it will probably take some time.
Rackocloon 11/fev./2023 às 1:39
Hi. I really like your UI but I find that all the health bars colors and details from Dark UI (amputations and Skeleton blue bars, for example) are way better to read and understand. Could you please add an option that only makes those changes? The rest is great.
