Also neither of my "performance" mods ever touched battles since most of the battle's performance dips were caused by vfx and shaders (e.g. the spell effects and related effects when a lord/hero targets itself or another unit), which isn't something we can unpack.
I went to the Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\594570 folder and copied all the pack files (with the corresponding icon) from the mod subfolders to the 594570 folder directly, and everything seems to work now.

Clicking on a city is still a pain though.
