@Ketchup_Stain: so far as I know, as long as they haven't broken anything fundamental about how MW5 mods work, this should Just Work; it's doing some minor file replacements, and the only code involved is custom shaders. The experience won't be perfect; any 'mech skins that were released after this came out won't be supported, and that means all the Clans stuff, etc., unfortunately. I would like to get to all that someday, but it was a pretty big deal optimizing all the textures for this and cleaning things up, so don't hold your breath, lol.

@Kamikazee_Llama hi, thanks for replying, I really appreciate you taking the time to do so. I suppose 5 FPS or so is nothing for a lot of players but for us pre-Helm players anything we can squeeze out of our obsolete hardware is a literal godsend.

With how you made the mod, what can you tell us about the effect of using the current mod on the latest version of the game? Do we expect any game breaking issues if we run the mod or will the optimizations still function?

@Ketchup_Stain: I brought this up with them directly, in the context of my big optimization mod that so many folks use. I told them to feel free to use everything to fix their game, and was ignored, lol.

This mod makes distinct changes to the aesthetics of the game while simplifying the shaders in spots. It's not a huge overhaul on speed for most users, but it probably saves 5 FPS or so. I can totally understand if people don't want to use it, etc.

Anyhow, I have no plans to overhaul everything that's new; I've been really busy working on a game of my own and I just don't have the time for this right now.

I will also say that I've been using this mod for a while now, and so far it seems to be working fine. Haven't encountered any clanners yet though.

Hi! I hope we will see an update of the mod to include content from the new DLC's because frankly, the optimization work you did here is superb! I've been extracting models and textures from MWO for a while now and I've noticed some of the issues you raised in your What This Does section. Was kinda hoping the devs would have bundled your mod in the base game to benefit everybody (like what they did with other mods).

Well, for what its worth, SOK is quite entertaining!

Would definitely love to see this mod and your other big optimize mod updated, its honestly incredible how much of a difference they make to the games performance.

@McMatt: probably not quite as intended? Like, the new 'mechs simply won't use these new materials at all. Shouldn't break stuff, though. IDK, I haven't had any chance to even play SOK, even though that looked interesting-enough to maybe throw $$$ at.

@Kamikaze_Lllama sorry if i came across harsh im my message, i have no idea how people do these mods and ive no experience in it myself so i am very appreciative of people doing stuff like this. I do love the "glow" effect cockpit you have done on the Crucius Lancers colour scheme and wish that was available for more colour schemes :) I do hope more people like yourself keep doing stuff for this game as i love the Battletech universe and i just really enjoy playing this game

Probably the cockpits could be "fixed" by running a mod that resets the cockpit glass styles. I think this is the feature most people complain about, and I've considered getting rid of it; I thought it was neat,but nobody else does, lol. I just haven't had any time to spare for modding MW5 since my little game found a publisher and I've been working on nothing else.

Hi there, i was wondering if there was away to "fix" the cockpit glass oddness that happens with this mod? love the look of the mechs etc with the new effects but the cockpit glasses go multi-coloured with a odd texture to them. Is there any way to revert them back to the game-standard gold colour without having to stop using the mod.

Maybe i'm not reading correctly, but am i understanding that the custom cockpit glass colors are tied to some skins, and are fixed to that color?

This mod causes a problem with the Wolverine II Razer skin.When the mod is active the Razer skin disappears, in its place is a second "Default" skin.

My mistake! I spoke too soon. I think it was the vonBiomes mod that was making everything very dark and weirdly and overly vivid.

@Bullwinkle: That's weird. I don't think it messes directly w/ the Dropship at all; IIRC I looked at that and didn't do it, because the Dropship is a big, complicated mess, lol. Are you sure you don't have any other mods that touch that?

Quick question for anyone who may know: this mod made my dropship bay and cockpit unbearably dark when going into missions. Is this changing the way shadows are rendered, and is there a way to tweak it so it's not so dark?

So far as I'm aware, they're both OK with YAML, unless something's changed over time with YAML. If it says there are 'conflicts", you can probably just put this before / after YAML in the load order and get the benefits.

if your Mech is just one big overall gray mech, it is probably just a issue with a Skin you used (which might have been removed or overridden).
Try and pick a different Skin, it should look normal again.

I mean, Mechs are really losing some of their "polish" with this mod. This is normal for this mod. I suppose for those who need such optimization, this is not so critical.¯\_('—')_/¯

Anyway I believe it could be a issue with YAML, but I prefer that mod as it adds content to game rather then just attempts (but fails at) improving mech shaders.

Sadly makes my mechs look like grey plastic toys as it removes the metal effect off them.

Not sure if this is intentional or not. 2.99 optimizer seems fine however.

Conflict with the Unlock Hidden Color Schemes mod.
But for some reason I also can not open his page. Perhaps the author stopped supporting it. ._.
This is probably normal, but there is a conflict with the Increased Treefall Animation Rate mod too.)
And one more small note: this mod somehow overrides the data of custom saved skins (or affects them in another way, I don’t understand this), because some of them began to display not quite correctly. This isn't a big problem because you can just recreate them, but it's still a bit of an inconvenience.)

Hey, just wanted everybody to know that I won't be able to update for a while; I made a game that's on Steam now: I had this crazy idea of combining a game like that with FTL-like deck-building mechanics.

Nuke Survivors is the result.

I've put up a free demo on Itch.io, if anybody wants to look. It's arcade-y and pretty straightforward at this time, but I'm open to adding more features if I'm seeing enough feedback!

Based on the version numbers I'd assume this was superceded by the optimize 2.99 mod. But in the description they sound very different. I tried using both at once and MW5 said they conflict. Should they both be used together?

Question, is this mod relying on any of the new cool GPU functions? I ask because while i have a setup with some horsepower, it is not current and I dont want something that is relying on new functions from say NVidia 2080 or 3xxx series or newer.

Just got the new Crusader Mech and wanted to paint it like my whole outfit but it does not work. Chromium is not available and even if I paint all mechs that way, this one does not get it. Is that because of your addon or just a bug?

Hi Kamikaze_Llama, just a really quick question. Will you be updating this mod and your other mods for DLC4? I love both this mod and the Optimize mod that you have here on the workshop. They've improved game performance quite a bit and was just curious if you plan to update or if they will work with DLC4 as they are now. Great work on these mods!
