I understand the frustration of useful creations being unavailable to you. I did spend a lot of time and energy in the community, and that effort is not lost on me either. I also enjoyed many of the community members' presence. I did attempt to reconcile with Discord since I did not want to lose so much. Human input was (likely) involved from their end, and we could not agree upon a resolution.
As stated I've left the mod freely accessible for anyone motivated enough to pick it up. I also did my best to document in the code and wiki. Unfortunately this mod is like a living organism and does require some level of constant attention. Since my time allocations opened up after I left, I've been devoting it in other areas, and do not have as much of the resource to devote here. Still waiting for Randy to drop pod me some more.
Til then I'll be floating about and perhaps one day I'll land on content creation again ;)
Not a human that is conspiring against you or your freedom of speech.
It is the equivalent of tripping on a rock and being mad at the Earth for holding grudge against you.
Write a letter to the Discord support, maybe they will read it, maybe they wont.
Try it. Or use this as an excuse to not do anything. Which you have all the rights to.
Still makes me sad to see your mod is not being updated.
Why not switch from discord to a different app? For instance prior to discord's invention we used to use teamspeak for our voice chatting needs."
btw you can just add an S to teamspeak :)
Steamspeak :)
whenever i play a game on steam, its always easier to use steam chat - no extra programs needed to run or web browsers taking up memory :)
@Federal By the definition of the word, it literally is censorship. Regardless if it's against EULA/TOS or not, by the literal, I repeat literal as in word for word straight for the Webster dictionary, is censorship as Covid is a political topic and being suppressed.
Doc agreed to them once they signed up, you can't go around complaining, it's a shame however that it was "necessary" to close his account, but that's the brutal truth, they reserve the right to close your account at anytime once it breaches their TOS/EULA
Also, Discord is a private entity, your constitutional rights don't cover private entities, only state ones.
Basic 1st amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Get it now? It's government-related only.
Altough I must admit Id love to have the voices of internet trolls suppressed, I guess even they deserve a voice haha.
Context:
Dr. Zhivago lost his motivation to create and update mods like DocWorld after being suddenly banned from Discord. The key takeaway, though, is that he was banned for the stupidest reason. He posted a link to a study about COVID-19 derived from the United Kingdom government.
That is, study data derived directly from the government. Quote, "I posted the link and an overview of the numbers. That was it."
This "covid discussion crap" is the whole reason this mod will never be updated. Hence, this subject matter is directly relevant to this mod.
Simply getting vaccinated isn't enough. One must also repeat the correct way of thinking or risk bans, which I believe is what Dr. Zhivago and others who've shown support for him are upset about. It's not about whether or not you should get vaccinated, it's about whether or not one should be allowed to discuss a matter from an angle that isn't "authorized" by a platform without being banned.
I still think it's dumb as hell that Discord banned you, but I suspect you know why they did.
I knew the amount of work you poured on this was enormous, but having to check (not the same as doing from zero) has made me appreciate your work even more Dr Zhivago.
You can pretty much do what you want with it. If you follow this link [github.com] the license is summarized in the top. Just need to disclose source/changes and release under same license. So a GitHub fork with same license covers all your bases.
