If you are able to appreciate anime as both an art form and a form of entertainment than you can understand why yourself and others like it (that is, because they view it as art or entertainment). Some people I've met don't have this view, and unfortunately there is almost no way to convince them(only way seems to be forcing them to watch a great show).
