Buildings Control Mods

Description
New : all buildings in a district can be marked as resilient!

This mod aims at stepping away from the disposable status the buildings have in the game. Cims can be pictured as more than just beings needing to be provided with services. If they would acquire an attachment to the places they visit, those buildings would not get abandoned to the mere problem. This resilient behaviour from the cims can then be the start of little stories around your town.

What this exactly does

Well, 2 things mainly :

1) Add a "history" panel to the building info panel, for the buildings of your choice. This panel contains a text field to type the history/desciption of the place. Additionaly, some facts are displayed:
  • age of the building
  • families having lived or citizens having worked at the place
  • various stats depending on the type of the building : number of clients served for commercial, quantity of goods produced for industry ...

2) Similar to the "historic building" feature of SimCity 4, some zoned buildings can be selected to not disappear. More precisely:
  • building will not get abandonned due to problems (such as water or electricity). The problem icon will still be displayed, but not in red (I found that too aggressive)
  • fire will stop before the building burns down
  • dezoning the building will not destroy it, bulldozing it you still can
  • building level will stay locked
  • abandoned or burned down buildings will be occupied again or restored, to the same asset they were previously
  • citizen happiness in residential building is less influenced by problems
  • disasters will wipe the building. I have not yet thought how the mod should interact with the new expansion, though I think it make sense to stay that way.

How to use

The mod adds a button to upper right of the zoned building info panel. By default, the button is deactivated, meaning that no data is recorded and that the building ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ normally from vanilla game.

Click once (book icon will display ) and the history panel will show up, recording data about the place. Click a second time and the buildng will be safeguarded (star icon will display ) in addition to the recording. A third click returns the building to vanilla mode.

Upon saving the city, all data and text entered from the buildings selected will be added to the savefile. Deactivating the mod afterwards should not cause issues loading those saves.

A button is also added to the district info panel. Clicking will make all buildings in the district resilient. Disabling it will remove history/resiliency for all the buildings in the district.

This mod also exist in an alternate version, for those that do not need the booK!

A GitHub[github.com] page is available for this mod. Also, i am open to suggestions to change features, as I imagine some of my choices here may not suit everyone.

Well, this finally died with the new parks and plazas update. Sure am going to miss being able to easily resurrect my destroyed neighbors after a disaster :steamsad:

So, this mod is surprisingly not broken for me personally, and it does not seem to conflict with any mods that I have nor cause any problems in general...does anyone have any idea how that could be??

I use this mod solely to automatically rebuild destroyed buildings after a disaster, which I don't think any other mod has added that functionality...

It seems that this also prevents my buildings from leveling up

@CoarzFlovv Historical Buildings prevents my buildings from leveling up, and even if I set the setting for listing residents and workers off, the journal still tracks a few things...Is there a file or line of code or something to remove it completely?
CoarzFlovv  [author] 13 May, 2020 @ 4:21am
Yup, there is indeed a setting in the settings menu to avoid listing residents and workers, if it's gets too loaded
