Old Habits Die Hard - Episode 2 Alpha Version

Description
Old Habits Die Hard - Episode 2: Ghost in The Machine

Suggested karma level: 70+

This is a work in progress release to give people a taste of what is to come, plus having you test my work helps me in the long run.

It is a decker only campaign. Be of note.

What is currently in is:

* Episode 1 fully integrated with improvements and additions to story and gameplay. 30 mins - 1 hour of gameplay.

* Episode selection screen.

* The primary 4 city zones of the apartment, Baker, market and ganger districts
* 2 random encounter zones: The abandoned warehouse (Apartment district) and the cemetery (South end of the Ganger district). Go here for random battles, money and karma.
* All planned sales related buildings in the market zone are in (cyberware and programs building, weapons and outfit store etc).
* Lexington Bar - 3 quests available from here so far. Some back story related stuff is in here, accessible if you have the right ettiquettes.
* The Pitt is in + the quests to gain entry to it. Go here for arena battles both in solo and party based battles.
* Walt's Decker Emporium - For those wanting to do random decker related missions. You can find that on the northern end of Baker District. 6 repeatable quests + 1 once off entry level quest.

* Optional Quest 1A: Flamer Gang elimination. Once you have the Pitt entry rep quest, head to the Ganger district to take on this one. Just be sure to have some runners with you as this is a straight up frag fest. No matrix stuff. 20-30 mins gameplay.

* Optional Quest 1B: Lone Star Data elimination. Speak to Knuckles to get the security disguise and lonestar id then head off to Lone Star HQ in Baker district to erase the criminal data. 20-30 mins gameplay.

* Optional Quest 2: Sewer Extermination. Quite a long run this one. 40 mins - 1 hour of gameplay.

* Optional Quest 3: The Pitt - Arena Battles - With the right equipment and stats this could completed in under an hour. Though this place is tailored towards high end (100+ karma) characters.

* Optional Quest 4: Gaining access to Walt's Decking Emporium. Quick quest to receive a data packet. Unlocks random decking missions generation. 10-20 mins gameplay max.

* Optional Quest(s) 5: Random Decker related missions at Walt's Decking Emporium. Choose from a random selection of solo and group based quests. Unlimited gameplay.

* Optional Quest 6: Cyborg hunting with Malick. Accessible once the sewer quest has been completed and the 1st primary quest is done. 30-40 mins gameplay.

* Optional Quest 7: Find Tommy. Reach the final end boss of the party rounds in the arena. 30+ mins as well as karma farming to be good enough to beat all of your opponnents along the way.

Primary Quests 1 - 6: 3 - 7 hours gameplay.

Whats not in so far:
* Primary quests 7 onwards.

So for now you can wander about and fight in random battles as well as take part in the quests and events. Any feedback for what is currently in, is welcome.

Updates if all goes according to plan will come on a weekly basis. So at the very least expect something new (eg a new store, quest etc) if/when you check back each week.

The random encounter zones are setup much like the SNES game, so if you go to a encounter zone and no enemies are there, try coming back a few times and something should popup.

Now one word of warning when going into this series. Unlike Dead Man's Switch's linear on rails style, the emphasis here is for a more open ended RPG experience with some money/karma farming being hugely beneficial to you much like in the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive Shadowrun games. So if going into this you want that better gun, armor, program, ESP etc then raising the money through killing random encounter enemies (farming) will be needed.

You can get away with not doing it, but the game will be significantly harder for you. With this series I'm doing Shadowrun as it was for me from the earlier games mixed with System Shock elements (story and characters wise for the most part), and not how Dead Man's switch did things.

UGC Dependencies:

* Portraits and Props - http://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=175642505

Troubleshooting:

* Black Screen when attempting to run this UGC despite having geeked's mod subscribed.

Copy the geeked folder into: Steam\SteamApps\common\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks

That should fix it in theory.

Please note that this has been ported over to Dragonfall DC and fully completed. So that is the version of this to play.

If you get a black screen its due to not have required UGCs.

I'll give it a spin... See how it shakes out.

And as mentioned over in SNES reboot mod threads, some quests have multiple paths. More so as things go on.

Just don't be expecting this to play like standard SRR as I deviated a bit, with my own additions.

And be sure to make use of the in-game PDA system which you access via clicking your character.

In true System Shock style, any data logs you acquire get added to it, for later re-reading. Plus it provides detailed info on quests both primary and secondary.

If you play through this to it's near completion, when you reach the point where your offered one of 2 quests, pick the gem retrieval one, as I fully finished and implemented that one. The other one is just missing it's final bit to be put in.

Besides that all that is missing is the final quest which was to end on a cliffhanger for episode 3.

Got the whole plot and level structure all planned out. Just the matter of implementation.

Yes.

Though episode 1 is 100% complete.
Episode 2 is around 80%. Note that I've never sat down and attempted a full play through. But I have tested each mission from start to finish.

Hey Icemann... Is this the completed versions (both acts) you were talking about?

Hey Mann, I look forward to trying this out!

Update 1 (since republishing):

Today's update:

* Beginnings for 3rd part of second available quest added. The quest area for that is now in, and (providing your up to that part in the quest) you can now travel to the island via the 2 options available.

If I have the time I'll get to work on putting together the remainder of that quest then will upload that with the next update. Will be 1 quest left to add after that and then this is done.
