KRH F2V Lorain Explorer

I have decide to revisit my old Lorain Explorer design and upgrade the design. This version is made with vanilla blocks only.

The Lorain is a modular spacecraft consisting of a Forward Section, Aft Section and 2 engine pods, all which can be seperated. The space between sections is not pressurized.

The Forward Section containes the main control center, crew cabin, life support systems and antenna. It posesses some thrusters and 2 gyroscopes for menuverability, solar panels and a couple of batteries for power. The forward section is capable of operating independantly of the aft section and engine pods as a stand alone spacecraft.

The Aft section containes the 2 large cargo containers, the refinery, assemblers, batteries and jump drive. This section does not poses any thrusters or gyroscopes. A connector on the dorsal surface, and aft surface allow the ship to connect with smaller support craft or for docking to a larger facility.

The engine pods are quipped the large ion thrusters, several small ion thrusters for sliding menuvers and the majority of the ship's gyroscopes. The default engine pods are not equipped with any atmospheric thrusters limiting this ship to space only operations.

The aft section can be detached from the forward section allowing the forward section to act independantly on its own as a kind of shuttlepod or to attach to a differant compatible aft section. Here is the procedure for the best uncoupling.

1. Ensure all airlocks are closed, specifically
   • Airlock Midbody Outer
     
   • Airlock Midbody Inner
     
   • Airlock Aftbody Outer
     
   • Airlock Aftbody Inner
2. Ensure inertial dampeners are turned on
   
3. Unlock "Connector Aft Mount"
   
4. Turn off "Connector Aft Mount"
   
5. Open "System Seals Aft Section"
   
6. Turn off "System Merge Aft Section"
