Yours is the laser that will pierce the heavens!

Description
Lasers, don't ya love 'em? Too bad there's only one here. It gets a good workout though. I made this level to experiment with aerial faith plates and a bit of vertical back-and-forth.

There are at least two ways to deal with the laser relay room and obtain the weighted cube. Also, a couple of other alternatives and shortcuts. I'd like to leave in some of the things that take a little creativity and are fun to execute but lemme know if you find anything so massively easy that it feels like an exploit.

Revision 2:
- Added respawn methods for some things that couldn't be respawned. Handy if you misplace something.
- Modified the aesthetics of side-shaft entries to make them stand out more.
- Enlarged the laser relay room and improved visibility between the areas around the default laser path.
- Removed the first faith plate in the starting room. Even portalling over to it was unfun.

Hints for the perplexed:
- Think with portals. With lasers, cubes and funnels too.
- If you're not sure where to start, explore and get a feel for the place. Use your portals for recon where the opportunity exists. Obtain scenic views.
- I've avoided gating areas - you're allowed to view puzzles that you aren't ready to solve yet. Come back when you've got the gear.
- Did you know that when falling, if you press against a wall you'll catch any ledges that you pass? You should try it.
- Soar recklessly through the heavens, and deftly snatch your heart's desire! Or don't.
- You may obtain the edgeless safety cube early, or wait 'till later. Or if you're feeling especially tricky, ignore it. It's optional.
- There are no secret rooms.
- There are three droppers in the level. These give you everything you need.
- You aren't meant to sprint past the turret. If you manage it anyway, you're awesome*. There's a less dangerous way.

* also, full of bullets.

Have fun! Feedback and recommendations are welcome.

The elaborate level design is intimidating at first but the puzzle is suprisingly tight and flows well when you get it. The exploration element was lovely, finding the little passages and getting ideas for a solution was an enjoyable intro to the level.

It would be good if the reflector cube at the summit spawned in the right location for the puzzle solution, my moment of satisfaction on realising the solution was somewhat stunted by having to re-setup the tractor beam and iteratively re-position the cube to move it a teeny bit to one side.

Oh and I managed to get myself trapped inside the reflector cube vendor. Yeah.

All together, nice puzzle.

Far too much complextification for my simple brane. Fortunately with a little coaching and some well-honed twitch reflexes I was able to solve it using just the reflector cube and the weighted cubic cube. Definitely a grand test.

I've confirmed that if you're careful with your portals, you can totally do this without ever touching the sphere. Consider it an optional objective.

Thanks for your feedback Broken:Tripod-Turret, the sequencing bothered me a bit too. I caved to the temptation of designing a convoluted solution for its own sake, and even though I know the puzzle well it still feels clunky to re-play. One of those cases where more isn't necessarily better - certainly a lesson I'll carry into other maps.

The funnel was one of those shortcuts I discovered during testing, but left in 'cause it only cuts out a bit of walking, and I figured the alternative might appeal to some. I'll see what can be done to make the shaft to the laser relay room easier to spot.

Not a bad puzzle, but it suffers from a lot of "now which floor did I leave ____ on?" Also, it took me absurdly long to find the laser room, as it was off to the side and white-near-white walls. After that, it flowed smoothly enough. The only thing that I think I partially worked around was the funnel at the bottom. If you sidestep off the side of it, you can land near the weighted button and it's obvious you're not meant to do that.

This is probably the largest map I've worked on and has a fairly long (hopefully satisfying) puzzle sequence. I've left plenty of portal surfaces around to facilitate shortcuts and general playing about that (probably) don't break the puzzle logic. It should give you some extra joy if you're the type who likes to mess with optimal routes and portal placement. Have fun :)
