ESP: Alteration Protection Spells Improved (an Enchantments, Spells and Potions mod)

Description
Get the Alteration skill Mage Armor perk bonuses, even when you're wearing armor!
Now when you use protection spells like Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, Ironflesh and Ebonyflesh, you get the full Mage Armor perk bonuses if you wear light armor or heavy armor boots, gauntlets or helmets. If you wear a cuirass, you still get half the Mage Armor perk bonuses. This is an improvement over the vanilla game, which gives you no additional boost in armor value when you wear heavy or light armor. Is it a cheat mod? Sure, but who the Oblivion cares? Just turn the game difficulty up a notch and enjoy the benefits of being a battle mage or spell sword!

❖ Please Consider Rating the Mod

If this mod does well, I might make a collection of Enchantments, Spells and Potions mods. So please consider rating it and adding it as a favorite, even if you don't want to subscribe now, and follow us on Steam to get notified when mods are released. Also feel free to make suggestions.

WHY THE MOD IS NEEDED

If you're a mage, wearing only robes and a hood, or hooded robes, you're highly vulnerable to attack. Even when using protection spells like Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, Ironflesh or Ebonyflesh, you have nowhere near the armor protection of a heavily armored warrior. If you wear any armor, even light armor, you forfeit all of the Mage Armor perks you get from these Alteration spells. Well, no more! Now you can wear armor on your arms and feet like a Vigilant of Stendarr, or wear a heavy-armor helmet like a Cultist, or ware a magic mask like a Dragon Priest, and still get the added mage armor protection you've worked so hard to get. Or go full scale battle mage or spell sword, and wear a full set of armor, and still get half the mage armor protection. Hey, you've invested a lot of hard-earned skill points to get the Mage Armor perks. Don't you deserve the benefits from using them, even if you choose to wear armor?

HOW IT WORKS

In the vanilla game, the Alteration skill spells Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, Ironflesh and Ebony flesh are used to give mages the protection of mage armor only when they aren't wearing any armor. This mod changes the spells to remove the condition that you not wear armor to get the added armor protection. The mod also adds a condition letting you get half the mage armor protection when you wear a cuirass. What follows is a list of the Mage Armor perk bonuses to protection spells (Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, Ironflesh, Ebonyflesh) for the armor worn:

❖ Mage Armor 1 (available at Alteration skill level 30)

✓ Wearing no armor: Protection spells provide 100% more armor protection.

✓ Wearing light or heavy armor boots, gauntlets, helmet: Protection spells provide 100% more armor protection.

✓ Wearing a light or heavy armor cuirass: Protection spells provide 50% more armor protection.

❖ Mage Armor 2 (available at Alteration skill level 50)

✓ Wearing no armor: Protection spells provide 2.5 times more armor protection.

✓ Wearing light or heavy armor boots, gauntlets, helmet: Protection spells provide 2.5 times more armor protection.

✓ Wearing a light or heavy armor cuirass: Protection spells provide 75% more armor protection.

❖ Mage Armor 3 (available at Alteration skill level 70)

✓ Wearing no armor: Protection spells provide 3 times more armor protection.

✓ Wearing light or heavy armor boots, gauntlets, helmet: Protection spells provide 3 times more armor protection.

✓ Wearing a light or heavy armor cuirass: Protection spells provide 1.5 times more armor protection.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS

Q. What will the mod do for me?
A. It gives you the full protection of the Mage Armor perks, even if you're wearing armor on your hands, feet and head.

Q. I don't use Alteration spells, but should I still subscribe?
A. Sure! It will give your followers extra protection when they use mage armor spells and wear the armor you give them to carry.

Q. Do I need to wear a helmet?
A. No, you can wear a hood with armored gauntlets and armored boots (like a Vigilant of Stendarr) and still get the full mage armor protection.

Q. Can I wear an armored Dragon Priest mask?
A. Yes, you will still get the full mage armor protection when wearing any heavy or light armor on your head, like the Dragon Priest masks, or the masks of the Cultist mages of the Dragonborn DLC.

Q. What if I wear a full set of armor?
A. You'll get half the mage armor protection if you wear any armored cuirass on your chest.

Q. Does the mod increase the amount of mage armor protection I get?
A. No, it just lets you wear armor without giving up the mage armor.

Q. Is there any advantage now to not wearing a helmet?
A. Yes, the hoods and hooded robes give you more magicka, unless you enchant a helmet that does the same.

Q. So would I ever not wear armor again?
A. Besides being harder to detect when sneaking, I can't think of a reason to not wear some armor!

Q. Are there any mods that aren't compatible?
A. Any mod that changes the three Mage Armor perks you see in the Alteration skill tree, or changes the Alteration spells Oakflesh, Stoneflesh, Ironflesh or Ebony flesh, will likely be incompatible.

Q. So what happens if I change my mind and unsubscribe?
A. The Mage Armor perk bonuses will return to normal: Wearing any armor will prevent you from getting them.

Can't find this mod for Skyrim special edition on PC. Will it be carried over?

I did all the math, and thought it would be a waste to let it be forgotten.

With max daedric armor (no shield or enchantments) and all relevant heavy armor perks, you get an armor rating of 395 (49+20, 23+10, 18+10, 18+10, +100% +25% +25%).

With max mage armor and ebonyflesh, you get an armor rating of 300 (100x3).

With this mod, mage armor, ebonyflesh, max daedric gauntlets and boots, max nahkriin, and relevant heavy armor perks, you get an armor rating of 478 (18+10, 18+10, 23+10, +100%)+(100x3).

Without heavy armor perks or smithing, you would still reach 359; only gaining 30 from 90 smithing and 59 from 80 heavy armor, but 119 from both 90 smithing and 80 heavy armor. So either get both or neither.

Heavy armor: 80 heavy armor, 90 smithing, and 13 perk points for 395 armor
Mage armor: 70 alteration and 5 perk points for 300 armor
Mod armor: 70 alteration and 5 perk points for 359 armor
Mod armor max: 70 alteration, 80 heavy armor, 90 smithing, and 18 perk points for 478 armor

Shoon: Opinion valued. Time limited. Trying to give full disclosure instead of giving wrong impression. Putting your idea on my long to do list. Thanks.

Ah... okay... it's just you've been on my friends list a while here on Steam so I made the assumption you valued my opinion a lot. But if I get money to donate... someday I'll do so. Heck, I still partake in game competitions and stuff and trade things over Steam like games and items. If you wish, I can send you a game or item as a donation of sorts.

Shoon: Thanks for the suggestion. When a mod has been out awhile, we generally wait until a mod gets popular enough to have five stars before investing more time into it. The best time to request a change is when a mod is first released. However, we do make exceptions for those who donate.
VinchenzoTheJackal & Shoon 20 Sep, 2016 @ 10:30am
I know that... but can you apply 0% or one quarter(1/4) protection if you wear everything?
sp0ckrates  [author] 20 Sep, 2016 @ 3:38am
Shoon: Yes, you get half the protection when you wear a cuirass.
VinchenzoTheJackal & Shoon 19 Sep, 2016 @ 7:44pm
Hmm... does wearing a full suit of armor, head body hands feet still at least negate mage armor protection? I would make sense that using small pieces like head hands feet does not, and body does half, but all at once should equal 0% if not at least quarter of protection... if you can make a change like this if its not already implemented I'd like that.
sp0ckrates  [author] 3 Sep, 2016 @ 5:45am
David: Yeah, that's what works for me. But anyone can do the same.
sp0ckrates  [author] 3 Sep, 2016 @ 5:43am
Tyger: Haven't made any follower mods. Maybe release one that puts one follower in each tavern? Then add an short quest to get each one. Maybe give each one a rare enchanted armor, robe, jewelry, staff or weapon. So completing each quest gets them a follower and an enchanted item they can trade for. Make it a surprise. Tell them about each follower, tell them the names of the inns, but don't say which one is in which inn. That way they have a reason to travel around, which is a quest in itself.
