Expanded Colours

Description
4.1.* Compatible

Expanded Colours Version 2.0
This mod augments the vanilla palette to a total of 195 colours in various ranges.
Additionally, all the new colours are usable by the AI.

Compatibility
This mod is savegame, achievement, ironman, and multiplayer compatible

It can be used in multiplayer even if other players do not have it, but players without the mod will see the added colours as black. Vanilla colours are included, so any flags using them will show up normally.

This mod should be compatible with other mods and Stellaris updates as long as the flag creation interface or the colour files aren't modified / updated.
If you have problems with this mod, try disabling all your other mods first, just in case there is a conflict.

Methodology
In contrast to the previous version, these colours have been picked strategically.
Firstly, all colours were chosen in OKLab colour space, to ensure that the resulting colours cover the perceptual space efficiently. Secondly, I've filled the grid in groups, to further control the coverage. These groups include the vanilla colours, instead of separating them as their own group.
Starting from the top:
  • Pastel colours (3 rows)
  • Bright colours (4 rows)
  • Vibrant colours (1 row)
  • Dark colours (3 rows)
  • Pale colours (2 rows)
  • Misc colours (1 row)
  • Grayscale (1 row)

Randomizable combos were created such that the colour pairs have a minimum perceptual distance to avoid monochromatic flags, but otherwise they are fully random.

Legacy versions
Legacy colours
Pre-launcher rework (2.3)

Using the following load order seen to solve my issue.:steamhappy:

Any mods that make changes to the flag dialog in the empire creation screen will conflict. I haven't tested with UOD myself, but as long as this mod would override the specific dialog UOD would work elsewhere, though I'm currently not sure how the mod load order works nowadays.

I have this working with UOD and UOD Expanded Colors - I have those load after Expanded Colours by Veegi. Before the game updates I just ran the UOD stuff but something got broken that Veegi's mod fixes.

I've confirmed this works on 4.1.3 with both a new save and one from 4.0, including random empires.

I also added the scroll bar for the emblems; though you'll need to have enough emblems in one category for it to show up (as is the case with e.g. Fandom Emblems.

Regarding updating the pre-launcher rework mod, I believe it's such a niche use case right now (and I'd have to set it up again), so I'll leave that as is. I will reconsider if there's actual demand for it.

The latest update broke the mod, 4.1.1 I believe

When you add the scrollbar patch to this mod, is it possible you can use the same patch for the other two colour mods (legacy and 1.8)? Thanks and sorry for the bother.

This mod seems to conflict with any random gen empires because they all spawn with straight black flags, disabling it brings the colors back though
