The Ganat' only recently, within the last 10,000 cycles, have made their way haltingly into space. They hadn't gotten very far until a visiting human trade ship arrived and sold them a prototype hyperdrive. However, not being astute traders, they failed to notice it was low on energy and the crew was found adrift in space.
