Atlantic Bay Terminal, The Timesaver Route

Description
About

This route is a fictional switching route, following the 'Timesaver' layout principles of model railroading. It is a very short route that fits on just a few world tiles and other than switching and serving industries there isn't much that you can do here. All of you who do enjoy switching scenarios, and particularly switching puzzles, should be right at home on this little route.

The setting of this route is a mid-20th century industrial town somewhere in the USA, probably in the East or South, which I've named Atlantic Bay. A class-1 railroad passes through town but serving the various industries is the task of the terminal railroad.

The switching shortline serves an interchange yard with the class-1 railroad, a baked beans factory, a steel mill, a paper factory, and various smaller customers. It has a small engine maintenance facility just big enough for one, possibly two small diesel engines.

Requirements

- Horseshoe Curve Route
- Portland Terminal Route
- European Loco & Assets Pack
- US Loco & Assets Pack

Please note: the Portland Terminal route DLC is no longer available on Steam, but it you can find it under a new name as freeware on RailworksAmerica:

Technical Info

All switches on this route are manual and there are no signals! This route is all about you, the player, having total freedom over where to go. Signals and AI trains only tend to get in the way of the player's path and thus have no place on this route.

For a bigger challenge in scenario play, consider using the Marshall instruction as much as possible when setting up the work order. That way the player will get less hand-holding from the game (no more "couple to front" etc.) and instead will really have to think how to get the cars to their destination.

Scenarios

User Warwick Rail has kindly provided the link below which lists the available scenarios for the route. Thank you very much!

Wow Kooth Odok - you have really gone to the trouble of restoring Portland Terminal !
I hope you have given the scenario a new life.

To get the "Portland Terminal" assets needed for this route, follow the link above to the Railworks America website and download the "G-TraX Maine Maritime Switching Route". Once installed, you will find a folder called "MaineMaritime" in your G-TraX folder. Copy this new folder and rename the copy to "PortlandTerminal".

Now once you have the folder named "PortlandTerminal", go into it and delete the contents of the RailVehicles folder you find inside. You will then need to use a tool, such as RW_Tools or the newer TS-Tools to edit the scenario's in this (Atlantic Bay Terminal, The Timesaver Route) route to use the rolling stock and loco's that are now in the "MaineMaritime" folder.

Hi GreatNortherner. I played around with several of the extra sidings and Destinations that I had placed, renaming, deleting and replacing, swapping lengths, etc.
But only those at B&M Baked Beans Factory that refuse to play ball.

Hi Roland, I'm not sure if Maine Maritime shipped with all of the rolling stock that PT did. Maybe not if some of the original DLC equipment was owned by DTG, but I don't know for sure.

I don't know what could be wrong with the markers. Did you restart the editor after placing them? I find that sometimes the editor has trouble using scenario-based markers in the same session that they were placed in, but all is well when the editor gets restarted.

Hi, GreatNortherner I have the Portland Terminal route myself and have started writing scenarios for it, but one "would be" subscriber is unable to play the scenario, due to not having some of the Rolling Stock I used.
I gather he has the "Maine Marine" route, which he stated uses different assets.

While you are here, I cannot get a track marker "Siding" and "Destination" to work in two locations next to the B & M Baked Beans Factory.
The markers are placed, one at the entrance to the sidings and one at the headshunt.
I have given them names, which show up in the list of Destinations, but any instructions are not accepted as a legitimate option.
In the map view the sidings are visible but do not have a name visible.
I'm assuming it may be something to do with the Track Instructions??

Hi Roland, which assets are missing for this route? In case you're referring to good old Portland Terminal, Rick made that one freeware quite a while ago: https://railworksamerica.com/index.php/download-library/route-collection?view=document&id=3029:g-trax-maine-maritime-switching-route&catid=20:route-collection :-)

Are there any other routes of similar size that are based in a similar era, that are suitable for this Timesaver idea?
But have assets that are currently available.

Here is a list of workshop scenarios for the route.

This is a great route with some switch moves needing some thought but that's why you have a Conductor!
