The goal of this addon is an alternative (better or worse as you decide) to other addons that modify the Combine Soldiers behavior.
This addon modifies the Combine Soldiers behavior and adds multiple improvements to them all this making a more “alive” and “tactical” NPC, it doesn't make them more OP or make them more lethal; at least that's not the goal of the addon.
And the best part is that it's performance-friendly! I made sure to optimize every function as best as I could.

Below I will show you the features explained with GIFs included.

• Accuracy adjustment when shooting.
You can adjust the accuracy of the soldiers in real time with the configuration menu being able to make it as a Stormtrooper or as a real Aimbot and the numbers are from 1 to 5 being 1 the worst and 5 a perfect accuracy.
The following GIF shows an example of a Soldier with perfect accuracy.



• Maintain distance from the target.
Soldiers will as far as possible keep their distance from the enemy unless cornered, soldiers will not retreat if they have a stunstick equipped (obviously).
The following GIF shows a Combine soldier retreating from me every time I get within a certain specified distance.



• Constant movement.
Now the soldiers will move much more during the combat; no more immobile soldiers crouching in the open field taking damage for free.
This function is configurable as you can change the frequency (in seconds) of each movement check and the probability from 0 to 1 (default 0.5) that each new movement check will make the combine soldier move more or less according to how you have configured it.

Below I will show you GIFs of the difference with the addon and without the addon.

• More forms of movement and dynamism in combat.
Now soldiers are not always going to run while fighting. “Somebody calm them down! They're on 100% adrenaline!” And what do I mean by that?

Have you used human SNPCs from VJ Base, or have you played Black Mesa and seen the Hecu NPCs? They do something that combine soldiers don't do in gmod, and that is to alternate between walking and running during combat, which in my opinion adds more dynamism and variation to combat as now they won't always be running like crazy, and it's configurable as you can set the frequency (in seconds) of each check to make the NPC able to perform the function, and you can also configure the probability from 0 to 1 (default 0.3) each time a check is performed, so you can make them do it more or less frequently.


In this gif we can see the change from "normal" movement to walking; it should be noted that this only occurs if the combine soldier has vision of the enemy.

• Take cover whenever the soldier takes damage.
Now every time a soldier takes damage, with a 50% probability (default 0.5), he will look for nearby cover or simply move from the place where he took damage in order to reposition himself again.
When that happens it will take 10 seconds (configurable too) to be able to move again in case he takes damage again, if the soldier has less than 30% health the probability will automatically be set to 0.8 (80%)


In this gif, we can see that the combine soldier signaled that he was hit by the enemy and then moved into cover just as I shot him.

• Better tactics and strategies when fighting.
They will now perform much better in ambushes and reposition themselves depending on the visibility and distance between the enemy and them, as well as depending on whether they have a shotgun or not.
They will use different behaviors such as establishing a line of fire.

There are still things that need to be polished and improved in this feature.

• Removed the restriction of only two soldiers firing at a time per squad.
Soldiers will now be able to shoot freely without having to wait for another soldier who is shooting to finish shooting, making them more aggressive when attacking together.

In this gif you can briefly see that the soldiers are fighting with an Antlion Guard and that they do not all shoot at once despite being quite a few, causing them to later lose the battle against the Antlion Guard.


Here you can see that the soldiers now shoot more aggressively towards the poor Antlion Guard, subsequently making them win the battle much faster and by the way, you can also see the difference in increased movement in this same GIF.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Q = Are you going to add "X" or are you going to change "X"?
A = If you want any feature you can tell me and I would love to try to do it as well as any changes you consider necessary.

• Q = Why is there no "X" function in the addon?
A = If it is not there it is because another addon already has it, for example I did not add the function to make the combine soldiers to patrol because another addon already does that, for that very reason.

• Q = I don't like "X" function.
A = You can change or disable it as you wish using the options menu in the spawnmenu.

• Q = Is it compatible with your other weapon switching addon?
A = It is intended to be used together, yes.

• Q = I found a bug/error.
A = Let me know about your bug in the bug report discussion and I will try to solve it.

• Q = Is it compatible with...?
A = I haven't tested it with other addons, if you want try them together and in the comments section let others know if my addon is compatible or not with certain addons and that way you could help to know what is compatible and what is not.

• Q = Why use this over another similar addon?
A = This one is performance friendly and will eventually have more features including any features you suggest/ask me to add! And well, it has a much better structure and better functions than my previous addon. I must admit that I have learned a lot by doing this!

When I play with this addon, the Combine doesn't switch to the pistol or the stun stick, staying still without doing anything or starting to back away.

Suggestion: Make combine aim for the head too. i saw when they are in CQC, they just aiming for the lower body (aka center of the body) which make them lose significant advantage even when their aim is perfect
You can add a feature that allows soldiers to use alternative fire from the ar2 SMG

i've got a suggestion for the weapon switching of rebels, instead of switching to stun stick they switch to crowbar
