Alcoholic Trait

Description
Phew... I finally did it!

I’m excited to present my version of the trait:
-6 Drinker

Alcoholic Trait is a simple mod (well, not for me lol) that was fully written with the help of GPT since my coding skills are stuck at a high school level. I’ve been wanting to create my own trait for a while, and thank goodness technology is advancing so fast, right?
I fed the chat with code for a whole month, and finally, something came out of it.
So, if any experienced coders decide to peek at the code — don’t be too scared, I warned you.^^
I know there are plenty of similar traits in the workshop, but here’s how I see it:

How does it work?

  • When you choose the trait, you start with a bottle of whiskey, a broken bottle, and some anger.
  • There are 2 stages of anger: the first stage is your warning light, showing that time’s up and it’s probably time for a drink. The second stage kicks in 3 in-game hours after the first, bringing debuffs like a headache, preventing sleep, and boredom, which causes depression to build up.
  • The more the character drinks, the more time passes before anger appears. There are 4 stages, just like the 4 levels of drunkenness (see the table below).

Update: I figured out how to make sandbox settings, so now it's up to you to customize the time to anger.

Moodle Name
Drunkness Level
Time Until Anger
A bit tipsy
10-30
24 hours
Inebriated
30-50
36 hours
Plastered
50-70
48 hours
Utterly shіt-faced
70-100
120 hours

Drinking a quarter of a beer bottle won’t be enough to reset the anger, so it’s smarter to carry a bottle of bourbon and drink a quarter every 24 hours. Sure, you can drink more, but it only becomes worth it when the character is "shіt-faced".

It’s that simple, no character death after a couple of days without alcohol, and nothing over the top.

So, if you, like me, play with incredibly low loot settings and want an alcoholic trait that won’t kill your character after searching half the city without finding a single bottle — this mod is for you.

Well, for roleplaying as an abusive husband trying to find his family that ran away from him, this is perfect. Good work. :tinyBFlex3:

@󠀡󠀡   can you teach me how to use chat gpt to make mods for this game?

@Trapito222 profession framework is a really good base if you're trying to learn to make traits without racking your brains too much. i've made a few traits based on it, you should look into their code and repurpose it.

zomboid modding community when you use chatgpt (which just reuses existing code): :steamhappy:

wish more people here would follow FOSS philosophy. why make mods if you're not willing to share them with others to help them improve the game and further technological progress? (hint: to shill your cashapp/patreon/ko-fi/whatever like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leech)
