UPDATE: After extensive testing and research, I can confirm that this mod does not fully work on official servers, for some reason only certain weapons do. I apologize for misleading people earlier.

Reimplementation of L4D1-style distance-based gunfire sounds. Vanilla version. All weapons except for the Silenced SMG, Grenade Launcher, and Minigun are affected.

Works out of the box simply by subscribing, with no manual installation required.

Due to the way this mess is organized, it only works on official maps, but creating patches for any custom campaign should be simple enough, by adding the following to the top of the map’s soundscript:
#include "distant_gunfire_soundscript.txt"

FAQ
Q: Does this mod work on official servers?
A: Not fully. Only some weapons, mainly shotguns.
Q: Is it compatible with custom gunfire sounds?
A: Sadly no, the sound files need to be made in a specific way.
Q: Wasn't this feature already in L4D2?
A: It was in L4D1, but Valve got rid of it in L4D2.

I wonder why shotguns are the only ones that have this effect in official servers, since in the soundscript they all have the same parameters

This is great but breaks in other servers unfortunately, since gun sounds made by other players are created using the servers soundscripts

@Kaptian563 @skullmonkey Well L4D1 campaigns already have it, and I agree it's weird L4D2 ones doesn't. I guess adding it should be a big problem

Could you possibly create like a distant gun fire ambience in l4d , to show that other survivors are still holding out - the other distant gun fire ambience mods are just pure earrape
