Raszyn

Description
The Battle of Raszyn was fought on 19 April 1809 between armies of the Austrian Empire under Archduke Ferdinand Karl Joseph of Austria-Este and the Duchy of Warsaw under Józef Antoni Poniatowski, as part of the War of the Fifth Coalition in the Napoleonic Wars.

Map scale: 1:10, Focuses on 2 main directions of Austrian attack, to Raszyn through Falenty and to Jaworzno.

Game modes:
Army Battlefield (Commander Battle)
Army Assault (Line Battle)

Poniatowski chose a position near Raszyn because the village was located a few kilometers from Warsaw, a city that he could not afford to surrender without a fight without being accused of treason by the unfriendly residents of the capital.

The banks of the Mrowa near Raszyn were very marshy, which meant that the river could only be crossed at a few points, which created a good defensive position that would allow for repelling an attack by superior forces.

The battle remained tactically indecisive, but from a strategic point of view it turned out to be a success for the Poles, as it initiated a campaign that resulted in, among other things, doubling the area of the Duchy of Warsaw and increasing the Polish armed forces from 14,000 to 60,000 in less than three months.

Prince Józef surrendered the unfortified capital, but on terms favorable to the Polish side.
However, in the first days of May, the triumphant march of the army of the Duchy of Warsaw to the south took place. The Polish army advanced further and further, occupying Puławy, Lublin, Sandomierz, Zamość, Lwów, and on July 15, Kraków. This forced the Austrians to abandon Warsaw, and finally the Duchy of Warsaw, after the defeat in the Battle of Wagram.

Strength:
Austrian Army: 28,000 soldiers, 94 cannons.
Polish Army: 14,000 soldiers (1,350 Saxons), 44 cannons.

Casualties and losses:
Austrian Army: 2,400 soldiers (800 killed, 1600 wounded,)
Polish Army: 1,390 soldiers (450 killed, 900 wounded, 40 prisoners)
