SNCF Bruhat Car

Description
SNCF Voiture Bruhat
The modernized South-East bogie cars, known as 'Bruhat,' are B10t passenger cars used across all SNCF regions. These cars originate from the modernization of 118 old Ty cars from PLM and 220 Prussian war prize cars, divided between the East and the South.
The nickname of these cars honors Louis Bruhat, the DEV engineer who designed them.

After the creation of a prototype in 1956, the modernization of the 318 cars took place between 1958 and 1959 for the ex-PLM cars and between 1960 and 1962 for the Prussian cars.
This modernization was almost a complete reconstruction: only the chassis side members, buffers, and bogies (of various types) were retained, with everything else replaced by new components.
These cars operated across the entire SNCF network, serving daily in local omnibus trains and, early in their careers and at certain times, in express trains sometimes over long distances.

General overhauls in the late 1960s led to the addition of UIC markings and the replacement of bellows with rubber inter-circulation gangways. The bogies of some units were also replaced, improving ride comfort and compensating for the obsolescence of reused bases.
In the early 1980s, the introduction of RIO trainsets and Corail cars began to threaten the future of the series, despite the adoption of Corail signage (light green strip above the windows and class marking panels). Indeed, these cars were less and less used for mainline services, especially on extra trains, and could not be operated in push-pull mode.

In 1981, a unit managed by Metz was modernized: it received a blue livery with a gray stripe at window level and orange Corail doors. The interior fittings were completely redone for half the car with seats from the Z 6400. However, this modernization remained unique, as RIO trainsets were better suited for omnibus traffic.

These cars were withdrawn from service between 1987 and 1991.
