U-14 "wal" Early WW2 Submarine [Fictional]

Description
The "Typ U-14" Class midget Submarine's:

"U-14 Wal"

The U-14 "Wal" submarine, built in 1937 in Bremen, belongs to a specialized class of midget submarines used by the Kriegsmarine during World War II. With a length of 18.75 meters, a width of 2.25 meters and a height of 4.25 meters, the "Wal" was designed for targeted offensive operations and was intended to be both agile and deadly in its execution.

In 1938, the "Wal" began its service with a successful maiden voyage that underlined the impressive capabilities of this submarine. In the years that followed, the submarine proved to be extremely effective in its role and contributed significantly to several operations in which a total of 11 convoys and a frigate were sunk. These successes not only demonstrated the tactical efficiency of the "Wal", but also the strategic planning and technical innovations that had gone into its development.

The operational history of the "Wal" took a dramatic turn, however, when the submarine encountered two British speedboats in the English Channel near Normandy on October 18, 1943. Despite attempts to evade the enemy, the submarine was tracked down at 1 p.m. and ultimately sunk, marking the end of its remarkable but dangerous career in the stormy waters of war.

The design and operations of the Type U-14 "Wal" testify to the sophisticated engineering and harsh realities of naval warfare experienced by both sides during the conflict.

The Type U-14 "Wal" was part of a broader class of midget submarines used by the German Navy during World War II. In addition to the U-14, this class also included the U-21 and U-16, which later served as experimental boats during the war. A total of 12 boats of this class were built, from U-14 to U-26. However, after 1944 only three boats of the class remained in service.

The U-14 class submarines were equipped with a diesel and an electric engine, which provided remarkable flexibility and speed. The diesel engine enabled a surface speed of 8-10 knots, while the electric motor could accelerate the boat to 8 knots. In combination, these drives could propel the boat to speeds of up to 18 knots. Underwater, the electric motors were powerful enough to maintain a speed of 8-9 knots. The boat could reach a maximum depth of 50 meters, proving its tactical usability.

The boat's design was highly maneuverable and required a minimum crew of three men: a navigator, an engineer and a captain. Although it did not have a snorkel for underwater breathing, it was equipped with a periscope, which made it possible to observe the surface without fully surfacing the submarine.

The technical equipment and flexibility of the U-14 class underscore the advanced technological capabilities and strategic design developed for the Kriegsmarine's war aims of that era.

Brief marginal information

the submarine is purely fictional, the story is invented and slightly embellished with ChatGPT, the stabilizer was built by the person involved as well as small fixes on the boat, the submarine itself is my first submarine that is worthy of showing you, I am open to criticism, improvements and ideas, but please remain constructive!

thank you for downloading or looking at this lovely creation!
