Description
Art Restoration Project for Jagged Alliance 3

Are you a die-hard fan of the classic Jagged Alliance 2? Do you find yourself yearning for the nostalgic days of tactical brilliance and iconic character art that defined a generation of gaming? The Art Restoration Project is here to bridge the gap between the beloved past and the exciting present!

About the Mod:

The Art Restoration Project meticulously restores the distinctive facial art of JA3 mercenaries to match their original appearances from Jagged Alliance 2. Each portrait has been carefully reimagined, incorporating their familiar poses and expressions, while seamlessly blending in the modern body art introduced in JA3. This mod is crafted with the utmost respect for the talented artists behind JA3, ensuring that the visual upgrades maintain the integrity of their work while rekindling the essence of the classic game.

Features and Highlights:

  • Nostalgia-Fueled Visuals: Relive the glory days of Jagged Alliance 2 with restored character portraits that capture the essence of your favorite mercenaries. Each portrait has been meticulously reworked to bring back the iconic looks that fans have cherished for decades.

  • Faithful to the Originals: Great care has been taken to stay true to the original JA2 art, preserving the characters' distinctive personalities and traits. The result is a harmonious blend of old and new, providing a visual experience that feels both familiar and fresh.

  • Respect for JA3's Vision: While the primary goal is to evoke nostalgia, the artistic contributions of JA3 are highly respected. This mod does not aim to replace or undermine the new art but rather to complement it, ensuring that the spirit of JA3's design direction is preserved as much as possible.

  • Enhanced Character Poses: In addition to facial restorations, some character poses have been adjusted to better reflect their personalities and roles, enhancing the overall immersion.

This mod is ideal for players whose love for Jagged Alliance 2 is like a drug — those who crave the classic aesthetics and characters that made the series legendary. If you appreciate the efforts to blend the old with the new, and if you value a respectful homage to both the original and current artistic visions, the Art Restoration Project is tailor-made for you.

It works!!! Awesome thank you!!!

Thanks for understanding. Hope that portraits are working properly now. I have a strong feeling that it's because of the capitalization of png file format (otherwise, I'll have to experiment further with the saving of the png files; I'm using GIMP, if that matters). If so, big thanks to CharlieChap for pointing me to the right direction.

No apology necessary! It's a super cool mod so willing to try anything to make it work.

Apologies most especially to Andrew for the inconvenience.

And oh my, just looked at the file format. Could it be that it’s because they’re in “.PNG” in all caps? If so, I deeply apologize. Will fix in a few hours. I’m not on my computer right now.

But I’m curious, why is it working on my end and others I’ve asked though? Anyway, CharlieChap could be right. Again, sincere apologies.

I uninstalled base game and all 85 mods, reinstalled game with just this mod only - same result - no portraits.

I have the same problem Morianthi as Andrew. My guess would be that some aspect of your picture format maybe problematic with certain graphic sttings. eg there are a lot of different formats to even a basic png image.

I am trying various methods, deactivting mods, then starting new game to see if the portraits are visible. I have validated game install via steam.

Any tips on how I can find the issue? Final resort will be backing up save games and re-installing the game + mods.
