[WIP] The CHAIRS Beginner's Speedrun Route Guide [Spoilers, Duh]

This guide is a MAJOR work in progress. If the routes are too hard / too easy, or there's better beginner routes, please tell me and I will work on it.

Intro:
Hi! Do you want to have good times in CHAIRS? Do you want to be able to brag to all of your friends that you have S-Ranks in all of the levels? Well this sure is one place to get that, because we aren't just going to get you S-Ranks. We're trying to go for as low of a time as possible.


Terms:
  • Prism - The collectable gems.
  • Escape - Once all prisms are collected.

  • Dash - The move you can do to fling yourself forwards by using a charge.
  • Charges - The amount of jumps / dashes you have in the battery.
  • Fast Fall - The move you can do to fall faster.

  • Spring - The things that boost you upwards when you run into them.
  • Pound Jump - When you fast fall into a spring to get a higher boost.

  • Speed Ring - The things where you enter them, charges get refilled and they sling you at max speed. Introduced in Appliance Avenue [AA]
  • Checkpoint - A checkpoint. Introduced in Dusty Dunes [DD]
  • Rail - The things you grind on introduced in Fungal Forest [FF]
  • Gate - The things that you go through to have the orange land become physical. Introduced in Mad Mountain [MM]
  • Firework - The things that reset your charges and give you one extra, to a max of 3 extra. Introduced in Volcanic Void [VV]

  • Level Swap - Moving between base levels in Zero Zone [ZZ]
  • AA / DD / FF / MM / VV / ZZ - All of the levels in the game.

Setup:
  • Settings -> Misc -> Skip Story (TURN ON).
Appliance Avenue [AA]

Rank Times:
S: 01:00 (60 Seconds).
A: 01:30 (90 Seconds).
B: 02:30 (150 Seconds).
C: 05:30 (330 Seconds).
D: 08:00 (480 Seconds).

Notes:
  • Every spring that you hit in this level should you should pound jump on.
  • Wait to dash off the first hurdle until after you've started to regain a charge.
  • There's a prism to collect after pound jumping off of the second sprint.
  • When collecting the 10th prism, smash into that pillar at an angle that sends you towards the 11th.

Notes:
  • Springs will give you all charges back. You can use this to use as many boosts as you can.

Notes:
  • Holding forward on a rail moves you juuuust slightly faster.

  • Going through gates does slow you down a bit. Some gates can be avoided.

  • You can make it across the first big jump with only one firework.

Notes:
  • The rails are most of the time faster than trying to skip them.
  • To do the intended shortcut going into MM, you need to only use 2 fireworks in the jump from rail to rail at the end of FF.

02:01:304 was enough to get S! I followed the start path (no shortcut) to the open area. That should give you 50 of 110. I turned left to the two apples. Clearing that area is enough to open the goal portal. I do not recommend going to the right oven area as I felt that these couldn't be cleared fast enough.

My best on Hungry House this session was 02:07:792 and it was still grade A. I think I need a better route in the last open area. That's quite tricky to plan.

Like 2 month late to response to @Linkblade: I'm adding the accurate rank times to the guide (Trust the amount of seconds if both the seconds and minutes are accurate. My source info is in seconds).

Oh I do know the exact times needed to get each rank, I'm just saying that with speedrunning, S is too easy so I want a harder par time. I'll try to make that clearer.

The par time on Appliance Avenue is higher. I got it with 00:53:83 so I assume par is 00:55, but I don't know for sure.
