Summer in the City 17 canals before the Combine.

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "gm_canals_prewar", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • d1_canals_08 and a very small slice of d1_canals_07 seen in a clear summer day
  • Cleaned up textures, warehouses, and canals. Moving cars, planes, and seagulls have all returned too.
  • Working canal lock door
  • Two different teleport destinations from a spawn room
  • Navmesh and nodegraph. Do note that the water depth in some areas resulted in nodes not being in some areas. Navmesh is across the full map though.

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
I've considered using d1_canals_08 for some sort of mapping project for some time. This seemed like a perfect time to use it. This map was also a perfect opportunity to build in some of the new ideas I had for the pre-war maps.

Outside of some hiccups with a funky areaportal, a couple audio things, and some overlays, the map making process was fairly smooth for this map.

i would really wish there was a post-war version. maybe even of the entire chapter! you already did that with Route Kanal, Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt, so why not really?

will u ever do episodic maps compiled? id be sooo down for the ep1 underground tunnels or the ep2 highways (and etcetera ofc) to be merged. thatd go so hard
also the citadel maps of base hl2 as well, maybe even a "pre-war" varient that's. just the pit. mostly cus the pit would be funny
