The ten of you awake in your cryptosleep sarcophagi to the sound of sirens and ripping metal. You barely get to the escape pods before the ship is torn apart. Some time later, you land on this unknown Rimworld.

You probably knew relatively little about each other before you crash-landed in the wilderness. Many have likely had friends or loved-ones that didn't survive your passenger liner's engines getting catastrophically hit by those stray mass-driver rounds from some ancient battle, but who knows? By imperial law drawn from tradition older than recorded history, all star-liners must have MORE escape-pods than there are passengers and crew at maximum occupancy. That means there's at least a chance, (and not so remote a chance either), that some of your relatives or loved ones also made planet-fall alive, just elsewhere: only time will tell...
