The v7.0 vanilla update (currently in beta) has improvements to scrap delivery. I haven't checked anything yet, but maybe the improvements are enough to make this mod obsolete.
Exact decisions will be made when 7.0 is generally available.
Someone actually posted a bug report about "fast tugs" a long time ago, so do check the official updates for any fixes.

My station center is 5+ km from the station itself, so this is most likely not the problem.

but replacing the engines with a slower one seems to have made them work. in any case, now the resource is accumulating rather than decreasing).
p.s. Previously, manticores had Split military engines MK4 with a vanilla purple slingshot mod, they flew 400+)))
I've placed the entry too close to the center of the station.
Rotating the Scrap Processors by 180° solved the issue.
I don't know why, but it works now.
