Restore Utilities

Description
The B42 port is here! Please read below for info

For the time being, the B42 port is placed as its own workshop entry. It is (for now) missing the map mods contained within the B41 version of the mod.

Feel free to play with the update, but please read the workshop description before downloading. I've explained how to use the mod now that you can't repair at the designated buildings anymore. Click here to go to the B42 page

enjoy :) please leave comments for that build over there

Bring the power and the water back!

This mod adds the ability to restore the power and water grids in Knox Country, optionally comes with both a custom power substation and water treatment building to restore their respective utility at!

To repair the power or water, you'll need some electric skill, along with electronic scrap and optionally any "fuses" you come across that will give various bonuses to your repair. But be aware that your patchwork repairs will only last so long, you'll have to come back and repair it again at some point!

To initiate repairs, find the building that houses the utility you're trying to repair and head into the room with the PC in it (with the brown square floors), then simply right-click anywhere while standing in the room and you should see more information on how to repair!

Alternatively, if you don't want to use my map mod, there are alternative options for setting up repair zones. See this guide for more details!

Maps that support this mod

If not using any of the following, you can enable the Restore Utilities Map submod (included in the mod download) to add 1 place to repair each utility at, locations can be found in the mod preview screenshots on the steam workshop page.

Thank you to you wonderful map makers who have added support for this mod in your maps :D

Maps where you can restore the power

Trimble County Power Station & La Grange

McAlpine Locks and Dam

Maps where you can restore the water

Filtration Plant

Known conflicts

Map/mod conflicts!

Map tiles used for my power and water stations are: 19, 37 and 37, 27

Known map conflicts: Fort Redstone, Santuario, Anthem, Perfect Shelter, Cherokee Lake, Aardmore Farm, Fort Forest, Complex Z-17, Constown

Sandbox Settings Sync Fix is potentially incompatible, try removing it if you're running into issues with your sandbox settings reverting.
My Random Shutoff mod, has built-in compatibility for this mod though, so don't worry about running both they'll play nice together :)
Blackouts and this mod were previously not playing nicely together, but this should now be fixed and they should be friends again :)

Existing savegame compatibility

Should be fine to install in an on-going playthrough. Though if you've already generated the chunks where the utilities are then I don't think they'll regenerate as my mod's buildings, so you'll have to add coordinates where you can repair by yourself (enable debug mode in singleplayer or have admin powers in mp)!

MP Compatibility

Works perfectly fine in MP, both dedicated host and local host! Though for larger servers you may want to consider adding your own repair locations in harder to reach areas than default. You may also want to consider changing the default sandbox settings!

Also probably incompatible with your immersion if you enjoy a hyper-realistic zomboid, power and water networks require a lot of smart people in a lot of different places, a single person probably wouldn't be able to do it all. :p

I have https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2794640100 installed although I had not tried using it till now.

I did some fiddling around and it turns out not only does the power grid go off on server reboot but the water state is set to "will break down in about 28 days" so I'm thinking the server is sort of stuck on those initial repair values I did at the Rosewood substation?
Doing any repairs now also no longer gives me the report card.

very strange, i have to ask if youre running sandbox settings sync fix? though youre definitely describing a new issue, and if there are no errors its almost certainly a mod conflict

running any other mods that do anything similar to this one? (even if you havent actually interacted with it yet within the save)

Also no errors in the log

I just tested it and yeah the power is going off after every server reboot, the water is fine however.

but you say it goes off sooner than that right? is it like, the very next day? or 2-3 days? is it only after a server restart? and lastly, if you know how to open the log, are there any errors from the mod in there?

Yeah, I didn't actually know that the inverter fuse did that as I was just throwing all the good parts I had at the repair, the report sheet told me the repairs should last 60~ days for the power and 30~ days for the water.

also, worth double checking just to be sure, you are aware that the repairs are meant to be temporary, right?

if (with default sandbox settings) you repair it at the lowest possible electricity level with no fuses, the repair will last like 1-2 weeks at most, if my memory serves correctly
Jackd44  [author] 5 Oct @ 5:20pm
hmm... as far as i know that should all be fine. there is of course the issue that the rosewood station specifically repairs the water network, and the west point station specifically restores power. so you won't be able to restore water anymore (without the special fuse that repairs both)

but that shouldn't be causing your issue, although interestingly you mention using the rosewood station to restore the power, did you use the inverter fuse to do this? as otherwise it should only restore the water

We are about 2-3 months in with 2 hour days. The first thing I could think of: At one point I reset some of the map chunks and added Constown/Redstone, my logic being that as long as the substation near West Point was still around then we won't need the one near Rosewood, which is covered by Constown now. The fact that we used the Rosewood substation to repair the initial power outage might also be linked?

not sure, thats a bit strange. how long was the mod working fine for, like how many (in-game) days into the server are you? did you have the mod from the very start of the server, or add it in mid-playthrough? added any new mods recently?
