New York & Boroughs 1:1.4

Description
Why 1 :1.4 ?
I wanted to recreate certain areas of New York, and not just Manhattan. 1:1 implied making too many compromises. 1:2 was too cramped and it would be tough to replicate NYC. So I settled on a 1:1.4. It’s small enough that you can stretch from Port Jersey to Washington Heights, feature the Turnpike and Forest Park, while at the same time allowing you to recreate most landmarks.
This way, there's way more nature, space for industries, and a huge variety of different types of building, from suburban sprawls to the scyscrappers.

Mods & assets
If you just want to subscribe to all the mods and assets needed for the map : One-click collection
But here is a breakdown of why all of them are in there, so you can decide what to do with it.

- NAF networks : bunch of North American looking highways (or freeways as it’s called). Not only does it look good, the elevated roads are also much thinner than vanilla, allowing for much tighter overpasses. Crucial in NYC. Sadly, there are no bridge versions, so you’ll see them overlayed on top of other bridges.
- BIG Urban networks : mostly is a skin, in the sense they don’t provide any lanes benefits compared to vanilla networks, at least as far as what I’ve used. But it also goes with road signs, markings and traffic lights to look the part.
- Custom trees, corresponding to what can be found in NYC in real life. I’ve used 2 brushes, and their settings are in the screenshots in case you’d like to continue the theme.
- 3 bridges assets : Delaware bridge, Bay bridge and Manhattan bridge
- Pedestrian and Bicycle Path : used for the Williamsburg Bridge. But it’s also very convenient and pretty realistic in the case of NYC.
- Traffic Manager PE : lane connectors, speeds, yields/stops, timed traffic lights and peds crossings. Expect weird cars behaviors if you don’t use it.
- Intersection Marking Tool : every highway junction has been drawn with IMT
- Node controller : used for smoother junctions
- Network Skins 2 : Everything will load fine without it, but some pillars and lights will clip into the roads below or above it.
- Unlimited Outside Connections : apparently if you don’t get this one, the map still works, and it’s only needed for the map editor.

Map Theme
If you want to recreate the look of the screenshots, I’ve included every theme/lut required for my mix in the collection as well as my own mix, Theme Mixer 2.5, Daylight Classic and the LUT (Real Neutral - non Relight Colorless by creativeDEX). The theme is mostly based on the Reaper_Real_Dark_Road theme by Reaper, but I’ve entered the right coordinates so the sun is where it should be. I’ve also updated the road, ore, oil and sand texture with other theme’s data. The latter is kind of important as I used it extensively to simulate the swampy area on Jersey. So while you can definitely use any theme on this map, this area might look off depending on the sand texture you’re using.
Other themes that work well with the map :
- European vanilla theme (even though I created the map with temperate)
- SCT-Homecoming & SCT-Rockyshore
- Coosbay03
- Realistic v1.55 Temperate

External and internal connections
A ton. 10 highway & 12 rail connections.
There is an independent Cargo train line on the south west of the map (Port Jersey) to feed the Greenville Yard. If you need cargo more towards the middle of the map on the Western side, you can probably hook up a hub on the North East Corridor line (the one tunneling under the Hudson to Manhattan) since this one will not be used a lot (mostly for outside passenger trains)
The 2 other cargo lines are on the Eastern half of the map and intersect at Fresh Pond Junction While one more or less stops there (Fresh Pond is a big cargo station in its own right), the other one continues North to the Bronx and feeds into Hunts Point and Oak Point. This is the only “through” cargo line.
As far as passenger train go, the Amtrak North East Corridor is featured (only stop is in Penn Station), as well as commuter lines from NJT (Main Line up to Lyndhurst, Bergen Line up to Garfield, and Pascack Valley Line almost up to Essex Street), Metro North (Harlem Line up to Tremont, Hudson Line up to Marble Hill) and the end of the LIRR branches (Main Line from Woodside and up, Atlantic Line from East New York and up). There are underground tracks to Penn Station and Grand Central Teminal and they both feed into the Harold Interlocking and the Sunnyside Yard. Bear in mind the through line from Penn Station to Sunnyside is forbidden to cargo, meaning you have no way of transporting cargo by rail from one side of the map to the other. You could adjust the setting with TMPE but I’d highly advise not to. I haven’t drawn the GCT-Penn Station underground train track because it has no business being there :D
The train track originating from the south of Port Jersey is originally a Light Rail line which you would probably simulate with a tram line, but I didn’t want to lock the map behind Snowfall DLC.

Iconic local connections include Holland, Lincoln and Midtown tunnels, connections to every major bridge crossing the Hudson or East River (Queensboro, Williamsburg, Manhattan, Brooklyn & George Washington Bridge), the Harold Interlocking as well as a few train yards (or rather a few tracks laid down for you), and a few spaghetti interchanges such as the 278 into GCP, the 278, FDR and 87 connections around Randalls Island or every Turnpike junction including those in Meadowland/Secaucus.

On top of the usual land connections, there’s also ship and planes paths. The ship will navigate through the Hudson and East River. The rest of the map won’t have any ships because it’s not very realistic and they’ll clip into bridges because they are not very tall on that part of the map. As for air, there are entries on the 4 sides of the map with an approach corridor on top of Laguardia and another one on top of Teterboro Airport.

Natural Ressources
This being New York, I have placed natural ressources but this is far from realistic and just here for here for the sake of being a fully playable map. Most ressources will be located in Jersey but there’s ore in the Bronx and around Washington heights (just because it’s hilly there) and a bunch of fertile land on the eastern side of the map. Jersey includes both offshore and inland oil fields, should you want to develop that part.

Starting tile
Your journey starts on the continent around Secaucus. In real life, this is a surburban sprawl (ie low density) adjacent to a big industrial/commercial area(think huge malls and parking lots). There is a huge highway interchange as well as rail and natural ressources in close proximity. However if you wish to start somewhere else (be it lower manhattan with all unlocks or one of the other boroughs), just go into the editor and change it. It will only take you a few clicks to do so.
Moreover, don’t even consider this map if you don’t want to play with 25 tiles . With only 9 tiles, you’ll never even reach Manhattan. 81 is best of course.

Railway 2 upgrade
This map originally was for my own use, and I planned to use Railway 2 assets better tracks layout (1 track can go 2 ways and there are 4 tracks segments too). Moreover, REV0 has released a bunch of tremendous assets that one could use in a NYC context, such as the Hell Gate bridge, the Portal North bridge, and the North River Tunnels. The Ohio 14th Street bridge could just as well be used in place of the Lehigh Valley (rail south west of the map). However, I’ve sticked to vanilla tracks for the workshop, since Railway 2 requires so many mods/assets. But I’d highly encourage you to use it.

Appreciate the consideration, thanks again

I don't feel like it given the amount of work it would require for a sub-par result, but you can use the last pic along with image overlay and have a nice blueprint for it.
As soon as possible (if at all) i'll recreate this in CS2 and i'll keep your suggestion in mind.

@Ben, this is awesome, thank you so much. I was wondering if you'd be willing to release a save game version with roads added?

works fine now ! thank you for updating it, the road network looks fantastic !

Looks like my last update broke the file. The workshop version weighed 0.5 MB while the local file is 21MB. Loading the local file works, but not the subscribed one. So i'm going to just overwrite it and it should be fine. Wondering if it always was like this x)
