[RP] City 17 - Canal Block

A sequel to Transit Block; Canal Block!

Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_city17canalblock", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

• d1_canals_01 to d1_canals_05 merged together into one map.
  
• Multiple living areas including the Station 8 Shanty Town, Manhack Matt's, and Boxcar Joe's.
  
• Combine base that can be reached through teleports including teleports via APCs. This Combine base can launch Manhacks across the canals and shell the shanty town with headcrab canisters.
  
• Spawn room with the ability to add Barnacles to the map, and three destinations.
  
• New surface areas, above the canals, to explore and use.
  
• Made the maps easier to navigate both forwards (the way HL2 original has you go) and backwards. As well new connecting areas were created to make each area feel more connected.
  
• Nodegraph and navmesh

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

This map was a bit easier to make than I expected. Unlike Transit Block (and the previous attempt I made at that way beforehand), the actual merging of the maps went quite easy. Only one area seemed to have a conflict with another. That being the spiral chamber from d1_canals_05 and the big explosion/water puzzle room from d1_canals_03. And it wasn't even that big of an overlap either.

The bigger issue(s) came around Brush planes. As it turns out, the curving roofs of many of the tunnels were throwing the compilers through a loop preventing me from even seeing the map in-game. After some fiddling with those brushes, I managed to solve it.

Also tried something new by merging some textures into single files allowing some brushes to be merged. This brought the brush count down quite a bit. Might apply this to future maps to really try and squeeze more out of each map.

Thanks for checking out the map! More is coming. What specifically? Besides the pre-war map for this one, the next HL2 map for Gmod will be the other, central area of City 17 from the uprising chapters. But that won't be all: more coast maps, a full Nova Prospekt map, maps from the Episodes, and more will be coming!
