This is an addon that uses libsm64 to bring a certain playable red-hatted plumber into Garry's Mod.
Please note that you will have to install the G64 binary module / libsm64, be on the 64-bit branch of Gmod, and that this will only work on Windows at the moment. Follow the instructions here after downloading the addon: https://github.com/ckosmic/g64#installation

Q: I'm getting errors in the console / the mod's not working, should I comment "its not working" without an error message or anything to help identify what the problem is?

A: No, please check that your libsm64-g64 package is up to date. To do this, look in your console for something like "Loaded G64 binary module! (Package version x.x.x)". The version number should match the version here: https://github.com/ckosmic/g64/releases/latest.
Alternatively, you can just check the console to see if it says your libsm64-g64 package is outdated.
If it IS in fact outdated, please turn on auto-updates in the G64 settings and leave/rejoin the map or install the latest version manually.
If you are still getting errors, even after updating AND VERIFYING WITH THE STEPS ABOVE that you are on the right version, then you can report the bug and include the error.

Q: Where do I get the ROM?

A: It's illegal to distribute game files so it's up to you to obtain it.
