Bonaventure Class Picket Ship mk 1

Description
History >>

The Bonaventure Class Picket Ship, or "Bonney" as it came to be known by, was the easy and fast to build "Liberty Ship" ( re: Galactopedia - Earth World War II, early 20th century ) of the Multi - Star System spanning Miner Wars of the 2070's and the Suppression Uprisings of the 2140's, 7 decades later.

Designed by Sigmund Von-Bonaventure ( Born on Mars, 2031 ), the vessel used tried and true, if now basic, technology of the times.

It was rated for in system medium to high orbit and space operations but was not rated for in atmosphere operations or standard gravity landings.

The vessel was hydrogen propelled and nuclear powered, with a crew compliment of anywhere from 4 to 8 persons, mission depending. Crew compliments of more were possible with the installation of more bunks and Cryo-Pod systems.

Standard accommodation's consisted of 4 crew bunks and 4 Cryo-Pods, thus hot bunking ( re: Galactopedia - 20th Century Submarine Service term ) was common on larger crew compliments.

The vessels had ample storage on board for mission patrol durations of up to 8 months excluding fuel stores, which could be replenished easily via ice mining and conversion to fuel gasses using the 6 on-board H2O2 generators and having 18 fuel storage tanks on board.

The vessel had as standard equipment 16 Small Cargo Container's for supplies and equipment. Also standard were a Small Class One "Basic" Assembler, Basic Refinery and a simple Keen-Ivarson Survival Kit System. Cargo space was very easily expandable with additional cargo modules replacing conveyor feed systems.

As a backup to the 4 low yield 15 Mw nuclear reactors, the vessel has 11 x 2 Mw power storage cells, which could be supplemented with easy to install but not standard equipped solar generation systems.

Standard Command and Control systems included 7 x Zulla-Quantum processing computer cores for Air Lock controls, Door Controls, Oxygen and Hydrogen efficiency, Cruise Control systems for additional propellant efficiency, Inventory Systems Management and Ships Systems diagnostic's and monitoring.

The primary bridge was a Dorsal - Aft "flying" bridge, with combat and backup control in Engineering.

Lacking a Hyper Hysteresis Quantum Fold System ( aka "HaychSquared" or "Jump Drive" ) the Bonney's were built under contract licensing and permission in the systems they were used to patrol and protect.

To facilitate crew and cargo transfers, the vessels forward 3rd was a hangar / landing deck area that could be sealed and independently de-pressurized for operations and additional cargo space.

It was also not uncommon for this vessel to have 2 or more small "snub" fighters for additional operational capabilities.

Armaments varried from star system to star system, being that they were easy to upgrade. The vessel has 2 surface mount cargo - ammo port "hard points" on Port, Starboard, Ventral and Dorsal quadrants of the ship. These 8 points could use low profile surface mount weapons or, with removal of a single cargo feed, could mount taller or higher profile systems in a lower profile to the hull.

Fore and Aft armaments could also be added with removal of some covering plates or armor.

Historically, tho cramped and having almost no creature comforts on board, service on the vessel was not seen to be adverse.

Many of these vessels survived the conflicts and even today are still in use. They are easily upgradeable with the current state of technology found in many star systems. Jumps drives of various, tho compact, types have been known to have been installed , after power upgrades were also installed.

Its also not unusual to see modern Thorium Reactors, Shields, Laser emplacements, Extended Life Support food systems for Daily Needs, Sensor based radar and other hardware or software upgrades. These vessels are very easily upgraded and maintained.

They can be seen plying the space lanes as merchants, transports, exploration vessels, mobile mining platforms as well as System patrol as was the original intent.

Being easy to modify and maintain, use of these as pirate vessels is very popular and its not un-common to see them in asteroid belts in less frequently patrolled systems.

These vessels are still built today by governments in the outlying systems and at smaller corporate shipyards, such as Skallabjorn Space Systems and others, closer to but not within the core systems.

yes on the hull you can see the conveyor points, 2 each side port, starboard, ventral and dorsal. Not hard to add one aft and forward.
