Illosius RW

Description
The reworked, retrofitted, modernized Illosius. There have been several changes in FSC's design bureau over time which have improved building schemes, and it was noticeable with how ineffective the Illosius class cruisers were against other ships. Now, with a *very* deep rearrangement of internal and external structure, the Illosius class has become a very high-performing cruiser, fit to play the role of being the fleet's backbone.

Notable changes include the replacement of railguns, gatling lasers, and megaton cannons with far more BMBs and dual autocannons, bearing of the updated paint scheme that FSC has since adopted, complete elimination of BF adjustment thrusters, extensive replacement of HE batteries with BF batteries, additional hoverbug and GMBs, and a switch to all VEN repair bubbles and BF shields.

Much has changed, but it's far more convenient to try out the ship and see how it compares to its previous self. I should note though that there is a 1.2 mil increase in price (which is very well worth it).

Lastly, this is the first push of this version and may require changes after further combat tests. Hence is the purpose this has been uploaded, as I only use tech I upload to the workshop for combat testing in other servers due to the extremely problematic issue of tech stealing. As such, a later rendition of Illosius' rework may be posted, and this item may become unlisted. Enjoy.

Similarly to the older version's paint scheme, the modernized set still only uses crosscorp skins and Rafs' megaskinpack

As an anti-grav and hoverbug hybrid tech, it needs power to fly normally. I tcan technically fly without it, but I would highly recommend you charge it first. After that, you fly it like a hovercraft with up arrow and down arrow for lift. If you have such bound to page up and page down, use those respectively

The general meta for said large fights revolves around having a high enough of an alpha strike to cripple your enemy with each salvo of either BS cannons or cruise missiles, which then leads to the deflect being extended HE shields. This, to the best of my knowledge, is how it goes. Of course, there's always ramming, but not everyone wants to crash their enemies in a glorious one-hit kill :)

TL;DR : BF shields can work to stop explosives, but must be placed well and have good repairs to back up the splash taken. HE shields are for when you really take on massive high-explosive fire that will overwhelm your poor BF defenses unless you have a super-repair build that simply doesn't need shields at all.

But anyways, it generally depends for whether it counters meta or not. The "meta" this one deflects is projectile spam, such as avalanches, dual autocannons, and lasers. However, at these higher end fights, only fools would actually fight with spam weapons due to the massively decreased fps from the projectile & particle count from the weapons. It's great for tearing up shields, but the returns are diminishing, especially against super tanks with hundreds of GMBs. Thus, if you actually want reliable drain for big fights, I suggest beam lasers and giga plasmas since they're lag friendly and can be stacked well.

With good VEN repairs, virtually yes and no. I personally debated about whether the shields were effective for something of this size, as my Epheserius, a moderately smaller ship, uses them much better. For larger things like Illosius, its enemies are far more likely to carry far more high explosives, and hence is why this is partially a demo upload, as it is my basis for testing the sturdiness of design choices. There are spots that can take serious damage from cruise missile barrages, but it holds up decently. My 8+ mil techs are all HE shield only, but one uses a very well placed bow BF shield to its advantage, so it's mainly up to the shape of the tech.

Looks good as always. Curious about the choice of BF shields. Has the meta shifted such that the extra efficiency is worth the loss of explosion protection?
