Intro
Playing the Ostfront faction in this game can be a more challenging experience since losing units comes with more severe consequences. However, your units are well-equipped and highly experienced. This guide provides an overview of the Ostfront faction, highlighting good and bad purchase decisions and explaining why they are important.

Infantry Squads

GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Ostfront faction boasts extremely powerful and reliable infantry. In fact, they are objectively the best infantry in the game, but this strength comes at a cost. Most of their squads spawn with low numbers of infantry, but they are equipped well and typically have high veterancy. Therefore, it's crucial to play your infantry safe, relying on your teammates' cheaper infantry or waiting for tanks to arrive before pushing objectives.

SQUADS
Leichte Aufklärer - The Leichte Aufklärer squad is not worth purchasing, even though it only costs 80 MP. This squad comprises of just 3 infantrymen with relatively low veterancy, an MG-42 with no ammo bearer, an MP40, and a Kar98K. You're better off buying the veteran marksman from the specialized soldier tab instead.

Leichte Aufklärer Heavy - This squad costs 140 MP and is the exact same as the first squad except it comes with 6 men instead of 3. However, it is still not worth purchasing as they are slow and have relatively low veterancy.

Veteran Grenadier Sturm - The Veteran Grenadier Sturm squad is an excellent option for attacking objectives and basically your best option for attacking with infantry. For 180 MP, you get 9 men, one MG-42, a good amount of SMGs including PPSh-41s, smoke grenades, and decent veterancy. Although they have low numbers, which is true for all Ostfront squads, these guys can hold your line against lower-tier infantry and, if played well, can hold up against medium-tier infantry.

Veteran Grenadier - Costing 200 MP, this squad is essentially the same as the Grenadier Sturm's, but it comes with a grenade launcher. Although they are a decent squad, there are better and cheaper options available.

Veteran Jäger - At 205 MP, this is your main starting squad. They are essentially the same as the Veteran Grenadier's, but they come with better weapons and a cooler appearance. They have mostly STG 44's and G43's and are a good mid-tier squad that can do almost anything. If you're lucky, they can even spawn with a panzerfaust guy.

Veteran Gebirgsjäger - This squad is one of the best and most effective in the game. Although they lack helmets, they come with unique weapons and have high veterancy. They come as a 10-man squad, which is one more than the previous squads, and they have an STG 44 scoped rifleman who can single-handedly turn the tide of an assault. The squad also comes with a G43 Scoped, which acts much like a semi-automatic sniper. The downside is that the MG man spawns with an MG34 instead of an MG42. They cost 300 MP and are excellent for holding objectives and even attacking if you take it slow.

Elite Fallschirmjäger - This infantry squad is considered the best in the game, but it's also the most expensive at 425 MP. The Elite Fallschirmjäger is worth the high cost due to their unique and powerful weapons. They come with both scoped and non-scoped FG42s, two accurate grenade launchers, and a unique sticky AT grenade. Additionally, two of the squad members are equipped with MG42s. This squad excels in dominating and locking down areas, making them reliable for sheer infantry killing power.

Mechanized Gebirgsjäger - This squad is a variant of the Veteran Gebirgsjäger squad with only 6 infantrymen, but it comes with a halftrack mounted with an MG42. The squad also has 3 scoped STG 44 riflemen, making it a high firepower squad. Compared to the Gebirgsjäger squad, the tradeoff is 3 fewer men for a halftrack and 2 additional scoped STG 44 riflemen. The Mechanized Gebirgsjäger squad costs 300 MP, making it a good choice for players who want more firepower on the field but can afford to lose the extra men.

NOTES
All German infantry have a chance to spawn with a panzerfaust. Depending on your luck, you'll sometimes have a squad with a lot of panzerfausts, and sometimes you'll have one with none.
Specialized Soldiers

PURCHASES TO NOTE
desc/squad/at_rifles2(ger2) - Name is bugged on this unit but it's the Russian 14.5 PTRD AT rifle, which costs 130 MP and is more effective against light vehicles than the German equivalent.

Panzerfaust Infantry/Veteran AT Infantry - cheaper and sometimes more effective than a regular Panzerschreck due to their ability to shoot up and over, allowing them to kill enemy tanks in relative safety. The cheaper Panzerfaust Infantry costs 80 MP and has a range of 45m, while the more expensive version costs 150 MP and has a range of 60m. Both come with two soldiers carrying two panzerfausts, as well as some German AT grenades (The magnetic sticky ones).

Panzerschreck Infantry - Your standard anti-tank bazooka, costing 130 MP and having a range of 75m.

Veteran Marksman - A squad of five veteran soldiers armed with G43's and KarK98's, costing only 130 MP and providing a cost-effective way to supplement your frontline.

Veteran Support Infantry - Spawns a three-man squad of Gebirgsjäger's with an MG34 and two ammo bearers. While a bit expensive at 110 MP, this purchase provides a veteran unit with an MG34.

Panzerfaust:
Transport and Procurement

QUICK OVERVIEW
Typical compared to every other faction, except you get a cool officer-looking car.

SdKfz 250/1 - A smaller German half-track with a single forward facing MG42.
Support Weapons

WHAT'S WORTH USING
2cm Flak 38/3.7cm Flak 36 - These AA guns act and play very similarily except the 2cm doesn't penetrate as much armor and cost 195 MP versus the 3.7cm cost 250 MP and penetrates a decent amount. I've even seen the 3.7cm kill a sherman before. I personally don't use either of these very much but I've seen what they can do and they can be effective.

12 cm SGrW 42[Veteran] - The 12cm SGrW 42 is the best mortar in the game, with a range of 300m - 10m more than its Russian counterpart. It has a large explosion, is very accurate, and has a fast firing rate. However, it requires heavy ammunition to supply and comes at a high price of 770 MP. I would recommend purchasing this mortar only if you need to counter enemy mortars, and be sure to protect it at all costs.

PaK 40 [Veteran] - The PaK 40 is a veteran anti-tank gun that has 10m more range and better accuracy than its standard counterpart. It costs 470 MP, which is a high price, but it can last from early to mid-game and can even compete against mid to late-game tanks. It penetrates a lot of armor and is very effective at defending against enemy tanks.

StuH 42 [Veteran] - I don't purchase this tank often because there are other equivalent or better, tanks available for similar prices, the StuH 42 is equipped with a 105mm cannon that fires high explosive (HE) rounds. For 800 MP, it can take down almost any tank in the game with a solid hit.

SdKfz 251/1 'Stuka zu Fuss' - This rocket artillery vehicle is one of the best in the game, costing 1500 MP. It can kill tanks and infantry, as well as wipe out entire areas of the map. It can even shoot incendiary rockets, making it a versatile and deadly asset.
Light Support Vehicles

WHAT'S USEFUL
PzKpfw I Ausf. B - For 220 manpower points (MP), this tank is a great option. It's a small tank that's equipped with two MG34 machine guns, which are very effective at taking out infantry units. If you position this tank well and provide it with good defense against other tanks, it can easily eliminate any enemy infantry units that come its way. However, it has very weak armor, so even basic anti-personnel mines can destroy it.

SdKfz 234 Puma - This tank is a fast-moving vehicle that costs 300 MP and is equipped with a 5cm gun. While it lacks in armor, it can be useful for taking out light vehicles. However, it's generally not recommended to rely on this tank as a long-term solution, as it's not very effective against heavier tanks. It's usually better to save up for a medium tank instead.
Tank Support

WHAT IS GOOD
PzKpfw 747(r) mod. 1943 - This tank is simply a German-captured T-34. It's a decent buy when you need a tank immediately, as it costs only 420 MP, which is low for a medium tank. While it may not be the best choice for taking out more heavily armored tanks, it can handle other medium tanks with a little bit of struggle.

Panzer IV's - There are 3 different Panzer IV's for the Ostfront, from left to right the first one is just your normal panzer IV, the next one is the same panzer IV but with side skirts, and the last one is a J variant which doesn't have automatic turret rotation. It does come with side skirts though. Usually you won't be buying these because you just don't need them, but they're here.

PzKpfw 756(r) - The PzKpfw 756(r) is a must-have tank in every game you play. With a price of 800 MP, it is a KV hull with a German 7.5 cm cannon, making it one of the best tanks in the game. It has excellent armor that can withstand many direct hits and a high-penetration gun that can take out most enemy tanks.

PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G [Veteran] - With a range of 240m and a price of 1600 MP, the PzKpfw V Panther Ausf. G is a high-accuracy, long-range tank that is perfect for late-game battles. It has effective armor and better penetration than the Tiger 1, making it a formidable opponent for most enemy tanks.

PzKpfw VI Ausf. B 'Tiger II Early Turret'/PzKpfw VI Ausf. B 'Tiger II Production Turret' [Veteran] - These two variants of the Tiger 2 are the ultimate tanks in the game. While they both have a range of 250m and the same gun, the price difference is huge, with the early turret variant costing 2250 MP and the production turret variant costing 3100 MP. The only significant difference between them is that the early turret variant has a slightly weaker turret. However, both versions are highly effective at taking out enemy tanks and are a great investment for late-game battles.
Tank Destroyers

NORMAL TANKS ARE JUST BETTER
Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer [Veteran] - For a cost of 750 MP, the Hetzer boasts good armor and an adequate gun. However, for just 100 MP more, the PzKpfw 756(r) offers significantly better value. Still, if you're in the mood for something different, the Hetzer can be a fun tank to experiment with.

Panzerjäger Tiger (P) 'Elefant' - In my bad opinion, the Elefant is a superior choice compared to the King Tiger, thanks to its reliable armor and the same cannon and range. However, there's a downside: the Elefant's lack of a 360-degree turret means it can only face forward, which can be problematic if it gets detracked. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a tank with exceptional armor, the Elefant is definitely worth considering.
Special Points

GOOD BUYS
Veteran Officer - It costs 2 SP and can help you field more units while also increasing your MP gain, especially if you have less than 50 CP. In addition to these benefits, the officer also comes with some bodyguards for added protection.

SdKfz234/4 - This tank is essentially a PaK 40 on wheels and is a fantastic early game purchase if you need some extra firepower. It costs 5 SP and can pack a punch against enemy tanks.

PzKpfw 747(r) mod. 1944 - This purchase is a T-34-85 with some infantry and costs 6 SP. While it's a unique buy, it's not always the most effective choice as it's only available later in the game when other options may be more useful.

SdKfz 8 Flak 37 - Costing 7 SP, this vehicle can be a great supplement to your tank losses. It's equipped with an 88mm gun similar to the Tiger tank and can even be used as artillery with its indirect fire capability. However, it's open top and can be taken out easily, so use it strategically.

Sturmpanzer IV 'Brummbär' Late Production - For 10 SP, this tank is a fantastic purchase. It's equipped with a 15 cm cannon that can reliably take out pretty much every tank in the game with just one shot. Since this is the later variant it also comes with a coax machinegun, making it more effective against infantry as well. It's definitely a tank worth considering if you have the SP to spare.
Conclusion
Playing this faction effectively may take some time and practice as losing key infantry and vehicles in the early stages of the game can have severe consequences. Being cautious and strategic is crucial for success. However, when executed well, this faction has the potential to excel. Skilled and prudent players may find this faction particularly effective.
