Description
Important:
You need to start a multiplayer p2p game to use the addon. You can do this from the start new game menu by clicking the green box in the top right, and setting it to anything other than singleplayer.

The player tool can be found in the tools list, usually near the bottom. It is used to set-up matches and to actually play the game/control units.

This addon (obviously) conflicts with the original MelonWars, so you should only have one enabled at once.

If you're looking for people to play with try the Melon Wars Discord.[discord.gg]
Valen Sandbox ( IP: sv.valensandbox.xyz:27040 ) also hosts this version of Melon Wars.

Overview
This is a heavily modified version of MelonWars:RTS, which is itself a remake of WarMelons (a classic RTS addon from older versions of Gmod).

This mod started as an expansion of the factions in the original (hence the name), but has developed into a more general overhaul, including a mountain of bug-fixes, optimizations, QoL, balance tweaks, and extra content. Over the past few years it has been exclusive to my private discord and a few dedicated gmod servers, however I've recently decided to properly polish it and release it on the workshop.

This has been posted with explicit permission of the creator of the original Melon Wars, who has been aware of it since it started development, and who is in the private server I've been using to host it.

What is Melon Wars?
Melon Wars is a physics-based RTS game. It is played in sandbox, and you can find the player-tool near the bottom of the tools list in the spawn-menu. Map-entities like capture points and outposts can be found in the Melon-Wars category in the entities tab.

You're also able to make your own vehicles through the Contraptions system by attaching wheels, engines, and unit-turrets to props. These can then be saved and built using a contraption assembler in matches.

You can play on almost any map. That means you have a LOT of freedom in how you play. You can play matches on hl2 campaign maps, in-between other players' builds on a dedicated server, on rooftops, the sides of zepplins, or really any other setting you can imagine. It's also possible to build your own maps out of props (as seen in most of the preview screenshots), which has become the most common way to play.

In addition to this, there are *no fixed win conditions. Meaning the objective can be whatever you'd like. As a result I've seen Melon Wars used in a lot of different ways, with people setting up their own minigames or campaigns, or even using it as a roleplaying tool. You can also simply set up your own home-brew ruleset to play with your friends, or run matches with slightly different or unusual win-conditions.
*The standard way to play is to fight until your opponent has been wiped out completely. But again, there's nothing forcing you to play this way.

What's different about this version?
  • 2 New buildings for each faction
  • Substantial balance changes to/reworks of existing faction units.
  • Mild balance adjustments to the non-faction units.
  • Fine-tuned and balanced default set of units, with the option to enable bonus units in the admin menu to use old MW units and new un-used faction building/unit concepts.
  • Substantially more resistant to multiple forms of cheating/exploiting.
  • Lots of bug fixes, including the dreaded selection bug, which made the original effectively unplayable.
  • Loads of performance improvements. 4v4s are possible with less lag than a 1v1 produced in the original.
  • Additional entities for map-making.
  • Dedicated server compatibility, with the option to open the admin menu to players so that they can set up their own matches.
  • Tons and tons of minor tweaks, additions, and Quality-Of-Life/polish that I'm unable to summarize.

Both of those units work fine on my end, cannons are one of the ones I just fixed.
marines shoot at the ground when targeting a cannon, noticed some of the same issues with snipers. who knows how many units this is an issue with...
weird, thanks for fixing though

Fixed.

Those definitely used to work properly, so I'm now wondering if the CS:S content update might've changed the origins of a bunch of models. Cannon even had a shotoffset defined, it just wasn't a correct one.

Fixed. Their shotoffset wasn't high enough so units were hitting the ground instead of them.

good job moving out 1500 lines of unit definitions into its own dedicated file. i remember trying to modify the original melonwars myself, and it really hurt to add new units lol
