Vanguard Attack Fighter

The Vanguard is a powerful attack/patrol vessel usually assigned as part of a squadron on a larger carrier craft. It is very manouverable, especially for the heavy armour it uses, and carries four gatling guns and a missile launcher. Its main strength, however, lies in its myriad redundant systems. For example, rather than one large reactor, it has thirteen smaller reactors, all linked with conveyers and spread across the ship and providing twice the neccessary energy to ensure you never run out of power, even in the longest dogfights.

And that's just the start- the ship has been designed so that even the wings and fins can be taken off, and all the pilot need do is activate the backup thrusters to regain full speed and manouverability. Also mounted on the wings, close to the main body, are booster thrusters, allowing a sustained forward burst of speed for when you need to get out of a fight fast.
