Earthquakes and landslides have devastated the region and continue to strike zones. With the regional road network fractured, travel has become extremely difficult, and basic services have been disrupted in the region. Civilian populations are left isolated from each other with little food and water, and a rival nation has seized the opportunity to claim the region by sponsoring insurgent forces. The insurgency holds many fortified strongholds in the mountains, along with caves opened up by landslides. An international operation has been deployed to rebuild the region and secure it against insurgent threats.
