Finally, after a very long and arduous process...a sequel to rp_trainstationdistrict!

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_city17transitblock_v4", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map WILL cause issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • Combination of unique geometry from 12 maps from Half-Life 2, including every d1_trainstation map, two d1_canal maps, and four d3_c17 maps!
  • Five shops; two of which are in and near the plaza, two of which are down near the apartments seen in Half-Life 2, and one on the eastern side of the map close to the highways.
  • Four different apartment buildings; including the one seen in the trainstation levels, one custom building, and two seen in the d3_c17 maps.
  • The entire train station including an alarm and a control room where several Combine announcements can be made and several placeable Combine turrets can be found.
  • Part of the canals including Boxcar Joe's train car hideout
  • Three secluded courtyards
  • Spawn room with four teleport destinations, spawnable Civil Protection officers that will fight back if they or their allies are attacked, and a working, optional Breencast
  • Part of the underground highway
  • Kleiner's lab including the HEV suit room and teleport room (the teleporter itself isn't).
  • Small medical building on the eastern side of the map near the highways
  • Some interior spaces have been cleaned a little to let people decorate and set-up how they want
  • AI nodes across the map. A few aerial nodes in certain areas.

NEWLY ADDED FEATURES AS OF JUNE 11, 2023
  • Multiple offices near the underground highway
  • Navmesh support

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
This map has in some form been in the works since the release of rp_trainstationdistrict a long while ago. Originally this map was supposed to be a lot bigger and have more stuff in it but unfortunately engine limits were hit pretty quickly and FPS and compile times began to suffer. So some compromises were made. I think in spite of that, it still turned out pretty close to my original vision and is still a unique and interesting experience.

One of the big things I knew for this map was that I wanted it to feature new props and textures, to help make it look better, as well as to help with making things run better due to the high amount of brushes in the original maps. The big ones being decorative doors and windows. The other thing I wanted to do was also to fix the way some of the original maps lined up in trainstationdistrict, as I didn't quite like how it ended up there. I think the new scaling and placement of things works well to preserve more of Valve's original vision then what I did previously.

Thanks to all the other maps I have done, I've managed to learn a number of new techniques to help optimise the map better in comparison to trainstationdistrict. And make it look quite good in the process. The big one being the skybox. It helped so much with this map and is a big part of why it is playable at all since many different pieces of the original map were moved there.

I think after all of this, this has become my largest map. Maybe one of the largest maps rp maps on Steam. Certainly when it comes to the ratio of detail to pure size. And maybe in regards to the various maps that have attempted to merge various HL2 maps together.

//Closing//
I am so happy to finally have this out and in the world! Thank you to everyone who made suggestions and critiques in trainstationdistrict, you helped a lot! While I will monitor the map, do bug fixes and the like, major additions or expansions might not be completely possible as the map is very close to several different engine limits.

I have a few new map plans and do plan on doing some updates to already released maps. Oh and yes, this map will become the basis to a new pre-war City 17 map...
