05/07/2021: Release

Rim Effect is a large overhaul mod series, adding the story, races, objects, and conflicts of Mass Effect universe into RimWorld. The Mass Effect elements are not meant to stand out, and as such are blended into the RimWorld style by utilising the same naming conventions and writing styles.

Much like Vanilla Factions Expanded, the Rim Effect mod series comes divided into sub-modules, firstly to allow the players to pick exactly what elements they want in their games, secondly to ease the production and design process.

Rim Effect N7 is an add-on module to the Core module. It introduces a new pawn kind - N7 operative, capable of utilising powerful biotic and tech abilities. N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The "N" designates special forces and the "7" refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to Alliance personnel who have graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program.

These soldiers use specialised gear including weapons and armors based on those from Mass Effect games. Mechanic-wise, N7 armors come with unique abilities, whilst N7 weapons have a 10% chance to deal devastating double damage. This equipment is however tied to a special research project and is expensive to make.

We are currently not aware of any issues. If you believe you encountered a bug, please submit a hugslib log alongside an explanation of how the bug occurred. If you don’t do that, I promise you I won’t get back to you. We need the logs to troubleshoot. We don’t need screenshots or your mod lists, or names of your pawns. We need logs.

To get hugslib logs, make sure you have a Hugslib mod running, then go to the dev console and press the green 'Share logs' button. Post the link in the comments.

You might also need to download a Hugslib Token Fix mod if you encounter issues with log uploading.

If you have feedback in regards to a specific mechanic, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section below!

Q: I got N7 Adept suit but I can’t use Dark channel?
A: You need to have biotic amp installed to benefit from it.

Q: I dislike X mechanic, can I disable it?
A: No, the entirety of the mod comes as one package, with every mechanic tied to other mechanics. If you dislike something, simply don’t use it in game - there is plenty of elements in this mod. Avoid the ones you dislike.

Q: Do I need RimEffect Core for this to work?
A: Absolutely yes.

Q: Can I add it to an ongoing save? Can I remove it?
A: Yes, you can add it whenever you like. You should be able to remove it, although you will get some errors!

I would like to post this here for those that don't know, this is from the mod creator Oskar Potocki's Patreon, posted back in March regarding the future development of Rim-Effect.

" Rim-Effect was created when I was riding the Mass Effect Legendary Edition hype wave. As I finished the game, the hype died down and I lost interest in continuing the project. Considering it took as much time to make these mods as Vanilla Factions Expanded mods, and it only reached 5%-10% popularity of the VE mods, I couldn't justify spending so much time and effort on them. The mod will be reuploaded by Neronix and will receive 1.5 update on his end. "

I wish Oskar and his team would have continued working and updating the Rim-Effect series mods, I was looking forward to the Quarians and Turians being released however having Neronix update it is still appreciated. Hopefully one day the mod will be developed again and the stuff they are making now is great.

This mod used to be amazing. I had to switch to Outer Rim while I wait for this one to be updated.

I read on Oskar's Patreon that Neronix may take over this mod and re-upload it once updated. I very much hope so - I'll miss the Reapers invasion mechanic quite a bit!
